I successfully resisted GAS today.

Been GASsing hard for another Marshal DSL100H or HR. I had an H a while back, did an OT and choke upgrade, it totally slayed, and then I flipped it, always regretted doing so. I've brought all my Marshalls to band practice over the last few months and the other guys always say my '69 100w Metro clone build slays all others. I usually bring two at a time to A/B them. I was leaning toward the Silver Jub reissue, but again, the guys always say the Plexi clone wins. Had a huge gig last weekend, sound guy also doted on the Plexi clone. But I want to do this OT and choke upgrade again on another DSL100H or HR. Well, an H popped up on the local CL for $500 yesterday. Mrs. Lee was out all day, so I put all my heads through their paces at full tilt. And, well, I'm really not missing anything. I don't need another. I have all bases covered. Until I find a DSL100H or HR someone is giving away (I have seen them for $350 and not pounced), I'm going to stay strong and be happy with what I have. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

I got a 100h last year and haven’t really fell in love with it like a lot of guys do with dsl’s, I gotta spend more time with it

There’s nothing better than firing up what you’ve got to do attendance to see if all is earning their keep.

I grabbed my metroplex and it killed all gas for another vintage Marshall. I’m happy with my modded 74 that’s closer to a bastardized 80+ JMP and the metroplex to both cover all of the basic Marshall tones you’d ever want. If I need more than either can offer, I have the laney. If the laney won’t cover it, I get the heavy artillery out and boost channel 2 of the Bogner. I have everything I could ever want for Marshall tones and I’ve never been happier amp wise. Now I’m just trying to figure out my effects decisions. It never ends ??

Why are they so cheap? Made in china or Mexico? I've never really looked into them.

There's a reason those Plexi circuits are coveted by all the 80s star players....such a pure open raw tone; just doesn't get any better if you're after Marshall tone..just add a pedal or two and that's all you need. No tone sucking MV mods needed....I don't care which MV you want to put in, they always change the tone some. I've played them with all variations...stock is easily the best choice. If you like it with your MV mod, rip it out and LOVE it.

Ok, not sure how much it comes through here, but this is a clip from last week's gig. I was running an old SD-1 and a TC Electronic Chorus Mini for most of the song.

Point is, what the hell else do I need? This is it. Maybe I need a backup, but this amp is what I hear in my head when I'm daydreaming about tone.

I don't know what DSL can give you that you don't already have...
THIS, big time...although one Marshall that can be surprisingly great while being it's own thing are the split channel 2205/10...they have a unique midrange tone that I haven't heard with any other Marshall.

This. I bought a DSL 20 combo for a grab and go. OMG it was the worst sounding amp I ever played. Happily returned it and fired up my Splawn.

I did not successfully resist combo GAS recently, grabbed a Marshall Origin 50C. I threw in a Scumback H55/100w, a pair EH 6CA7s and an RFT in V1 and, well, now it's perfect. I got a JCM2000 DSL50 from another RT'er a few years ago, also did an OT and choke upgrade in it and it sounds amazing.

Your 69 amp has a really great rock tone...I bet it can do all of the above, Zepplin, EVH and then some. I can't imagine a DSL being much better than that but I would venture to say you could make it sound just as good...

I really enjoyed the Red Barchetta Rush tune, are you guy a full Rush Tribute band?

Thanks, yes, Rush tribute. We did some All the World's a Stage stuff and it made me dig back into that vintage Marshall tone. And the guys really loved it. BTW, the last gig we had, which was a really big one, I used the same amp. It was making some noise, but it was a short set and I got through it. Didn't touch that amp for a month and, when I fired it up again, the power tubes were done. I got every last minute of life out of those tubes. I keep a log of that stuff and they were 4.5 yrs old. Threw in a new set of ValveArts and she runs like a top now.
