This phaser board is slightly smaller than my last one I built.
The Rate knob is like a Phase 90 only divided in half and put on a switch. It's easier to dial in the speed you want with the knob and the Fast/Slow switch making it like two knobs worth of range. I prefer slow subtle sweeps, so I set the switch to slow and had the knob just below noon, which is like my usual 9:00 setting on a Phase 90.
The Depth knob has the perfect range too. All the way down is subtle, but still audible, and all the way up was rich without being overbearing. The difference can be adjusted with the Volume knob to keep the effect at unity, with plenty of room to boost if needed. I kept the volume between noon and 1:00 mostly.
The star of the show is the Q knob. It widens the sweep of the phased frequencies with a subtle bias towards the low end. Turning it up focuses the sweep in the upper mids, while turning it down extends the sweep well past bass frequencies. I got the sweep past the fundamental of my low C on my Spector bass with the knob around 9:00, and preferred it between 9:00 and noon on either instrument. For a bass, having that control on a knob is a godsend.
I still have yet to smack it around with some gain, but I'm already loving it.
