Well, especially with guitar, this has been going on for a long time - it's just with every iteration of technology, the ways and means of faking it get more and more advanced and harder to spot.

But in general, if something sounds unbelievable, it sounds that way for a reason.

I actually believe that guitarists' dependency on technology is keeping the instrument from moving forward.

Honestly it's not as much about "getting the perfect take" or comping performances if he were actually writing songs or playing in a band on a record or music video or something - it's clearly intended to show off his "virtuosity" or whatever or he wouldn't make 1 minute instagram guitar-only showcases.

Those videos only exist for making people think he can actually play that shit.

It's not even a big deal about the miming if it's in a situation where it's not meant to mislead people - jesus christ look at these comments, apparently I should start hucking snake oil and get some of those sweet sweet clicks - because apparently it's really, really easy to do with people who aren't that familiar with what's going on.

Dude 1000%. Like there are a ton of people who think he's the yngwie or steve vai of this generation, and it's really sad because it's all a lie.

All of these "new techniques no one has done before" and all of it is complete bullshit, which makes the money and endorsements ring especially hollow.

Fake playing is fake playing. Guitars make all kinds of noises and sounds through real amps, for example. Heck, I saw Pete Thorn change the audio in a video where he nudges the low E-string, but there's no sound because it has been (I think) spectrally edited or overdubbed.

It's the age of social media, pretty much. Even record labels will judge whether your band will sell based on your likes on social media.

Do you know it's just 10 bucks for 74,000 hits? That's why some artists have millions of hits apparently, because they paid US$130 to a bot farm for a million views.

Just stupid sh*t: if you can't play it, don't fake it.

It's also amusing that the people defending this kind of thing will be shouting themselves hoarse if a pop star lip syncs on stage.
