If you thought your health insurance was getting worse

I'm asking seriously and sincerely now. Who pays the Drs then? Straight billing to the patient?

That's gonna get really expensive don't you think? I know that was the case 100 years ago but there's lots of expensive diagnostic equipment and exotic drugs now that weren't around then.

If the patient can't pay, what then?
The way it works in the U.S. is that literally everything is billed in piecework- Every single service. In surgery, there’s multiple billing’s for anesthesia, surgery, X-ray, lab, O.R,. Hospital subcontract everything out. Nurses, doctors in specialty clinics, cleaning, security. They keep some staff employees, admin, doctors, nurses, etc, but they’re more like a general contractor.

Oh, I wasn't clear in my question. I meant if insurance is eliminated and universal health care is also gone, as Geo suggested, how would Drs get paid? That leaves only the patient. Correct?

What did we do before billing companies?
People died younger.

Could you afford to pay for treatment and a hospital stay for say, a heart attack? And why would you think prices would decrease if insurance companies suddenly disappeared?

Do you think hospitals and doctors would work pro bono for any and all hardship (I.e. can't afford a 6 figure hospital bill) cases?

Oh look. Now since someone he hates doesn’t like insurance companies he loves them. When logo was murdering the CEO though he was giddy as a school girl that the evil insurance guy got what was coming to him.

You’re a joke Earl.

Huff and puff and act real tough.

Show me where I said I liked insurance companies. Oh, you can't? Talking out of your ass again? Mmm-hmm.

Wanna know the point I was making? Read this really slowly and make sure you understand every word.

You can't just eliminate medical insurance WITHOUT something to help everyone but the billionaire class pay. And that thing would be universal healthcare of some kind.

Now do you understand?

And let me see if you've replied (stalked) every other post I made today. I'm guessing "probably".

Enjoy your evening.

Yep, everyone's obsessed with you.

As has been pointed out to you a hundred times, you are a complete dickhead so when you make fucked up comments in multiple threads across the forum, people are going to respond. That doesn't equate to stalking, but hey, whatever you gotta tell yourself to make believe you aren't a completely uninteresting loser piece of shit. :dunno:

That chart is 8 years old, life expediency has gone way down since then.

You have a habit of cherry picking data.

Why should insurance companies and billing companies get rich while the price for everyone goes up, it's not working in the current format

The age of the graph doesn't matter, look at the trend, it's undeniable. But the graph isn't the point anyway. The point is that modern medicine is great compared to years and decades gone by BUT it's expensive as hell.

I agree with you 100% that the for profit, insurance driven payment method is an utter disaster. The point I was making, and I guess I was being a bit obtuse, was that the only alternative that will work is some kind of universal health care plan. Among the people that study that kind of thing the German system seems to get the highest marks.

Why aren't you concerned with the graph you posted in the first place?

What don't you want to look at? Why would you post an 8 year old graph? Why is there always spin and half truths with you?

How is life in your fantasy land?

The problem with healthcare is that actually making you better is secondary.

How much can be billed and for what, is priority number one.

Now you have to negotiate your freedom from a hospital that is trying to drug you, operate on you or just hold you for whatever reason as long as they can.

That's why removing the profit motive helps. That was James' point.

No I couldn't, and I don't want to leave my wife without a home just to squeak a couple more years out of life. If I was dying from a heart attack the last place I'd want to spend my final days is in a hospital. I'ma go out into the back five and hopefully the Lord will call me home there.

This kinda sound like an argument JTK and JD would make for that MAID stuff they have in Canada.

No, it's an argument I would make for universal health care. I believe brother VB should have care whether he can afford it or not. MAID is a complex issue and I have mixed feelings about it, as any nuanced thinker would.

I'm not sure where you gathered that from my post. I do not support any of the MAID stuff that others have painted as virtuous and humane.

Brother Von doesn't want any care even if he can afford it. Sutures or something basic, sure. But heart stents, valve, knee or hip replacements, no way. That's for others, not me. I am spending my time preparing for death because doctor or not, it is my density, I mean, destiny.

Thanks VB. It would be interesting to explore the fuzzy boundary between refusing lifesaving care, and actively seeking one's death.
