IIC+ HRG RI (..and DR RI) in the hizzouse!

Sounds good. When the guy was playing the GnR lead I could hear the HRG a little better. The amp seems a little brighter and grinding than the OG. Better upper mids, like you said. Both sound excellent though.

This is all true. I can bring the presence on the OG up about +3 to get it in the brightness ballpark, but the RI has better grind than the (ultra smooth) OGs

Do you have a comparison vid between the RI c+ and the RI Recto? Obviously I know they are different amps with different core sounds, but there's no way I would ever try both in this universe

You know well i'm not really a "mesa guy" but these new RIs seem my best opportunity to get a good representation of the classic mesa sound for a reasonable money, and I'm kind of debating which would work for me best

I'm leaning towards the C+ reissue as i've always hated the low end on rectos, but if the reissue recto is as tight as the early revisions that might change the math for me

Yeah, in the next week I'll be doing a reamp of the HRG RI vs the OG C+, a JP2C and the Recto RI.

I can't say which one you'd prefer, however the while the HRG RI is a damn fine C+ revision, they knocked the Recto RI out of the park.

Nice. How do you like the Gibson Standard Les Paul Custom btw?
The 70s Reissue LPC (made in the USA shop)? I can tell it's a USA guitar and not a Custom shop guitar, that said, I really like it. It sounds WAY different than other LPCs we've compared it to, they really nailed the 70s rock tone. The neck is oddly thin for a LP, too. But I digress..

Thanks ;)

A ‘78 custom was my first Gibson. It had a skinny neck. Probably just the era. I don’t remember ever playing a late 70’s Gibson that didn’t have a thin neck. Even the Heritage series they did in 80-81 had thin necks and they were their first go at a 59 type reissue.

Pulled the RI chassis out for testing & inspection. Using the stock 6L6 the amp is running 491 plate volts, and the stock STR445 YELLOW are around 25 mA. (each color moves ~4-6 mA, they're not matched super tightly).

The amp has the same PT as the C+ DRG RI, VII and the new JP2Cs. When I had those the DRG RI measured at 483PV with RED at 22 mA, the VII measured at 466PV with a YEL at 28mA while the JP measured 468PV with a YEL at 25 mA. So, within unit to unit difference the bias is all the same between them, however I'm stoked to see the extra PV on the RIs!

The JP & VII had a folded steel cap on the PT, where the DRG & HRG RIs have gone back to a stamped steel cap. The only thing I can see on the stickers that might differentiate them is the lower PV JP & VII units have a "R01" (revision maybe?) where the C+ RI units have a "R04".

With the OGs, the PT100 & X101 were around 460PV, the 60W models were around 490PV, the PT105 was around 500PV and the Coliseum PT around 550PV.

Note this HRG board is Rev 7. The DRG RI I got to check out was Rev 5.
