I have to go with the Suhr Modern Carve Top. I've had mine almost a year and it amazes me everytime I play it. Plus they look great.

I've played and owned a few Suhrs, Andersons, etc. but I still go back to PRS. My Floyd Custom 24 slays all my other "metal" guitars.

You found what works for you. PRS certainly makes fine guitars. The day I bought my Suhr I actually went to N'Stuff Music near Pittsburgh to try PRS guitars. Although jaw droping in many ways I found the Suhrs more to my liking. I liked the necks and the overall sounds more. Still much respect for PRS.

I think you can find "the best made today" guitar in many brands Gibson and fender still put out some awesome guitars but you just have to pick through them.

PRS is always great quality.

Some Ibanez models

I like my Gibsons, Fender and ibanez. I had a PRS that I should have never sold (to IBenHad  ) an 07 Les Paul gold top (to someone on here) and a '92 ibanez RG570 Blue Maple flame top on evil bay. Out of 20 something guitars sold they are the only ones I miss.

The one that you like the most! That's it!

This!

Lots of good guitars around, and can ever get lucky and get a good cheapie that the stars aligned on.

Tom Anderson and Suhr

I've got 3 Moderns and 2 (soon to be 3) TAs so maybe my opinion is a bit biased.

I think more of what's my favorite guitar these days. I've owned Suhr's and Anderson's and they are top notch. But I got lucky and this PRS DGT is just about my favorite guitar I've ever owned, the look, feel, sound, everything. Huge frets and it sounds as close as you're going to get to a LP while still playing a double cut body shape.

Of normal production guitars... I've got a thing for Japanese-made Ibanez stuff lately. In fact, I feel like for the price range of guitars that I usually shop for (in the 1k range), the quality is more consistently good with Japanese-made guitars than with comparably priced US stuff.

Just my experience, anyway.

I've gotta say after years of not clicking with PRSs I've bought 5 since 2012, Don't know what it is or what they did but they are now clicking for me in a big way... Still have 1 Anderson Hollow Cobra thats magic and I gotta include Luxxtone in the mix (picked up the El Machete prototype number 5) and while it's not like playing a PRS I really like the way I play and sound with that guitar…a lot
I am truly forever grateful to have the guitars and amps I have now to play through these a days.

That's a question that only the individual can answer. :)

I've never played a Suhr so I don't know what they are like.
Lots of people like theirs, so I'm sure it's an excellent guitar.
Same goes for other brands, as there's going to be a guitar someone loves.

I love how LP's look, classic rock n roll guitar, but they don't fit my hands and fingers. I don't feel like I'm playing an LP very well.
PRS neck's are much more to my liking.
My Strat has been my favorite and best for me for a long time.
But lately it's my Schecter C1 Classic. Nothing high end about it, except maybe for the neck through design, which is kind of rare as the majority of guitars are set necks or bolt on.
The stars must have all been aligned when this one was made cause it feels great, plays great, and sound great.
It's a reissue 2014 and I am very pleasantly surprised at how good this modestly priced guitar is.

I know you guys hate the musicman forum and the company but they make some top notch guitars, I currently have 3 and would buy another if I had the cash, comfy small bodies and really fast necks...I also have a LP and a PRS and a nice Ibanez but the MM stuff speaks to me,,suhr and TA are nice though too!

I think it's rad that we all have different manufactures that speak to us (great way to express this BTW) that we use to speak to others...

Its kinda of weird to pick up a $4k guitar and see it has a 2 pc body. I've noticed this with tom Anderson's and suhr's recently. Still nice guitars, just for that price I would expect a large enough premium piece of wood to make a 1 pc body.

As far as new builders, I was blown away at the attention to detail and playability of kauer guitars. All were lightweight and resonant.

I have never been a huge PRS fan, mainly because I haven't tried them out, except for an old Custom 24. But, fuck me, Paul kicks out some killer guitars. Serious eye candy on some of those Private Stock guitars.

I've got a lot of love for various guitars for different reasons.
I think a Les Paul is always gonna be difficult to beat. On the shred side, Ibanez make amazingly playable guitars, but they're a bit sterile compared to some of the up-market superstrats.

On the high-end 24 fret guitar spectrum, there's a few guitars that id' consider.
For me, they are the Suhr Modern, PRS Custom 24, Musicman JP & the Vigier excalibur. The Vigier & MM are easily the most playable of the four. The MM is a pretty ugly guitar though & i'm not big on the Vigier headstocks. The PRS is an awesome & pretty well-balanced guitar, but I really struggle to justify the price tag. I would happily own all three, given the chance.
The Suhr is the highest quality guitar of the bunch in my opinion & seems to tick all the right boxes for me. The one & only gripe for me though is the cutaway. It has pretty limited access to the highest register compared to most 24 fret guitars on the market. I actually think it's something John could look at as a tweak to the body shape.

I am currently into Suhr guitars. I think there are many builders out there today that make incredible instruments that just feel amazing to play. We are lucky to live in a great time for gear :)
