Is GC a scam ?

Yeah, I forgot about the Gear Credits I have coming too, I think around 90 days after the purchase. More free money!

The word "predatory" is almost as misused as much as "literally." No one made me use the card. I don't care what company backs the card and I don't care if it's run by the mob and charges points by the week. It's all disclosed upfront. CC interest rates don't matter to me because I don't carry a balance. I have one Amex that gives me 2% back on everything. I spend enough on that one that the cash back covers the $695 annual fee on my Amex Bus. Plat. card so I can use the airport lounges and the 20% points rebate on booking travel with them. If you need credit to buy toys, you should get used to paying interest. For me cards are just a convenience and a way to get some more benefits. I have Costco and Sam's CCs too to get the 4-5% cash back per gallon of gas I buy there. I don't get gas anywhere else unless my Fry's or Safeway fuel points make a significant difference in price. FICO is well north of 800, so I can take a minor ding once in a while.

It is what it is... if you go into a gc carding knowing whats up, and you're smart, it can be a godsend.

When i was 18 in like 2001, my mom co-signed for me to get a GC card. She explained to me exactly how that card worked as far as how much more i'd be paying on that gear per month (based off the apr %) if i let the balance exceed one month, and how that deferred interest shit worked on those promotions. She pretty much used it as a teaching moment to put the fear of the interest gods in me.

It gave me the spending power to buy any thing i wanted. The initial limit was 2500, but within a year, and a few phone calls, it was like 20k. it was perfect, i got to buy whatever i wanted to check out or flip and just got rid of it before the bill came. I made respectable amount of extra income doing that obsessively during the entire 2000's. There was a good dozen times at least where i'd buy something and make 700-1200 PROFIT THAT SAME DAY. One time i bought a used 82 gibson flying v2 with the goofy boomerang pickups (awesome guitar i should have kept btw) for 800 bucks at noon, and by 7pm i had 1800 in my paypal account from someone overseas. i took my girlfriend and i to niagara falls, got a nice hotel, painted to town red, pissed it all away as fast as i got it cuz i had no concept of saving back then. one time i got 2 rickenbacker john lennon series for 700 a piece at a labor day sale clearance, and flipped each of them for 2200 and 2k to people in the UK within a day or two. i used that money to pay for a whole sesmester a community college, books and all (big waste of money that was lol). too bad i wasn't doing that with real estate, i'd be posting on TheGearPage with some tan pants playing boo-teek gear rn.

those days are LOOOOOONG gone btw. this was before everyone knew about ebay, including the guys taking in used gear at gc. they didn't use ebay as a reference yet, so they'd bring shit in and sell it stupid cheap, and thats when i swooped in. So guitar center and their predatory lending holds a super close place in my heart. i spent a lot of my formative, young adult years driving to guitar centers with dollar signs in my eyes.

I did the same thing to a lesser extent. I remember grabbing a like new EBMM Axis for $799 at the Seven Corners GC in VA. I think I flipped that on eBay for $1500 within a few days, definitely had the money in my hand before the first bill ever came. I do the same thing with guns now, though none of my distributors will give me a line of credit, since they base those off of industry references and not personal credit. Might take another year before someone gives me a credit line. So I have to front the cash and hope my customers pay me. But then, as long as it's an in-demand item, I can always sell it to someone else if I have to. I took in $1600 worth of guns last week in a trade for a Friedman Runt I had $1035 into, though I had paid for that amp a long time ago. So it feels like free money now - LOL.

This guy just discovered what credit cards are. It's not a scam, it's just predatory on stupid people. If you're stupid enough to get a credit card and not pay it off within the interest free period, you deserve what's coming. Every single store I go into asks if you want a credit card. Costco? Upgrade membership. Home Depot? Offered a card. Walgreens? Offered a card. Best Buy? Offered a card. Dentist? Offered a damn card.

I use the GC card like I utilize any credit card. I want $1000 guitar? Put it on GC card, immediately pay off the $1000. Collect free reward gift card.

When i found out synchrony was the backing of my Lowes card i cancelled it.

They somehow tracked on a $25 annual fee. When i called they said they notified me.
Its not a card that i used much.

There wasn't any purchases in months so i never really paid attention until i got the statement

I don't argue about these things.
I cancelled the card on the spot.

Ended up paying the $25 just not to deal with it and the negative credit implications

They are a ruthless bunch to deal with

Synchrony loves the big cock

The Sweetwater and GC cards I use to think were absolutely amazing.

Until..

Mid summer of 21 I believe, I was 5-6 months into this new job and it had me traveling all over the SE, when my bank started seeing charges in AL, GA, TN, KY, could be 2-3 different states in a single day.. my checking account card got flagged for possible fraud, my bank was fully aware of my traveling.. but they flagged it early in the month, all of my Synchrony cards were due middle of the month, and I had already paid the first half of the months bills before my card was flagged, so I was locked out of my checking account while they ran down the fraud stuff... took a week for me to realize it and another week or two for the investigation. Long story short, I was less than 5 days past my due date to make that months payments... Synchrony closed almost all of my accounts. They did a bunch of shady shit on report and it took about 3 years, but after the suit with the credit bureaus I had some nice settlements.

Another thing they did, I was trying to sell my house in 17, and was getting ready to look at other homes so started the pre approval process, the month those dings hit my reports, all of my synchrony cards had their limits dropped to pretty much the balance I had on them, 10's of thousands of dollars of credit wiped away.. took about 6 months to get my limits raised back up higher than they were before they were dropped. House didnt sale then and a kid happened so we put it back up on the market, and in 20 when we bought the current house, the same exact thing happened.. got my pre approval for my current house, when that ding hit my report, all of my credit limits were bottomed out so every card was showing 90-100% utilization.

I ended up with a lot of gear I wouldn't have had if it were not for the 0%, and I took a lot of advantage of that, but if they were not a crap company that shut my cards off because i was a couple of days past the due date I wouldn't have found out how shitty they were, and would probably still be using their "Services"

My income is very unpredictable. I have a rough monthly average, but I get commission deposits every day, sometimes very small, sometimes huge. So I like having some time to knock out Gear Card balances. Some days it would sting a little to pay it off and maybe a month later, I wouldn't even notice it. I needed to sell a few amps when I ordered my SLO100. But minutes after I entered my card number, I closed a decent size deal that would (eventually) pay for about 1/3 of the cost of the SLO. I listed an amp for sale when I got home that night, it sold a day later, I had the money Venmo'ed to me within an hour and so I was all good. But I had no idea those windfalls were going to come so soon. Sometimes I've listed stuff for sale that took a while and then everything I was selling all sold in the same few days. But interest payments on toys are a huge hell to the no.

Yeah, my whole point was they prey on stupid people that are financially irresponsible. That's where they make their money.

This is the way. Anytime my wife and I get one of these 'retail' cards to take advantage of something we pay it off immediately. Only stupid fucks, like our resident idiot CharvelDanielle, cry about this stuff as they just want to bitch about the current administration and our 'red' state. She didn't cry in the prior administration. But go ahead and buy that ugly ass purple guitar anyway even though you can't afford it. :poke:

You’re the dumbest mother fucker here Dan.

Only in your mind shithead.
No. Not only in his mind. Your threads/posts are mostly unintelligible from the writings of a fifth grader at best.

Have you ever taken an IQ test? I would guess you are around 75.

You claim to have been in the military, but your score on the asvab would have been so low as to disqualify you to the navy by today's standards, so I am guessing if you in fact served, it was before it qualified one for classification or you were a Boatswain's mate.

The good news is, you are probably technically retarded and could probably qualify for government funding

Nah, everyone here’s mind fat ass. Go on and explain again how $38 for 7 gallons of the cheap gas in STL is possible. You can’t even do 3rd grade math well enough to make your lies possible, much less believable.
