It's funny because that style has been overdone just as much as any other. Singer sounds like a James LaBrie ripoff

   Yeah you are right and I like a lot of prog as well and even in that style there is stuff that has been way overdone. I didn't hear anything really pushing boundaries in that clip but I respect the musicianship in it.

Didn't even really seem that "prog" to me  I like some prog music, but for the record I'm not much of a fan of blues. I do like some here and there, mostly the heavy weights, (Moore, SRV etc.) I'm still not oblivious enough to think that it's not important, an artform or whatever else the OP is getting at.

I got a question for axemeaquestion...you play guitar full time (on tour) or do you have a day job?

So you're axing axemeaquestion a question.

I have a day job.

I can't recall, did Clapton or SRV have day jobs?

Doubtful. Heroin addicts keep kinda weird hours.

Well, I for one could care less if anyone hates any style of music.
I love all styles of music from blues to real funk to rock to metal to progressive to fusion and jazz and on and on...
And I am a fan of Holdsworths technical abilities and own several of his CD's.
So I can understand if you are a Holdsworth fan, that you wouldn't like the more simple things in music like blues.
But after listening to that clip that you posted, it is extremely far from anything Holdsworth would ever play.
If that is even you playing, you start off in a BLUES scale with a few minor passing tones then do a typical run of the mill major/minor run that says nothing.
70% of this forum can play that and way better.
I personally can't stand Clapton, Hendrix or even Yngwie for that matter, but I respect everything they have done for the instrument.
Hell, I even hate the Beatles, but they were about the best song writers to ever walk the planet.
But it doesn't mean I have to like or listen to them.
And I wouldn't say they suck. I simply don't enjoy listening to them.
I usually have no problem with anyones opinions, even if it is intended to troll as yours was, but you sound like an ass hat.
I think that if you spent a little more time opening up your mind to any other styles of music, it will surely benefit you in your musical mishaps.
You may actually learn how to implement some feel, vibrato, dynamics and overall musicality to your generic sounding playing.
Take a listen to my friend Oz Noy.
He can easily hang with Holdsworth, but actually has feel and life in his playing.
Like I said, I like Holdsworth, but he is extremely sterile, boring and lifeless to just about everyone except Jazz Twats.
Good day sir.

Ok. ladies, here's a first mix, unmastered, of your old buddy axemeaquestion playing the axe.

Dude I usually don't diss but after listening to you ramble on about how boring the blues is and blah blah blah, and THEN hearing you play, I will say this IMO your feel, tone and choice of notes all really suck. Don't quit your dayjob.

A great Blues player only needs to play one note. WTF are you talking about?
I was going to post that you wouldn't have your Holdsworth if it wasn't for the blues right after you started this ignorant thread. Where do you think Blues came from? It came from a depressed peoples, mostly slaves. It was a combination of American and Afro music. The same player you say you love has a great appreciation for the Blues. You are a hypocrite.

That what happens when parents ignore their kids. Pretty sad actually.

Seems to me the OP is tryin' to get a rise outta people.
The same can be said about the holdsworth/progressive thing.
If that's your thing than that's yow'sa thang.
Sounds to me though the OP needs to sit in with some seasoned blues guys.
It may sound and look simple but there's much to learn from the blues ESPECIALLY
the older stuff.
Playing blues music with players that really know how to use the beat and space
can really help you grow no matter how hot you are.
All that progressive quirky jargon is the easy way out in the blues.

See, for me what kicks me in the pants the most about older style blues is the rhythm playing. Sure you can noodle whatever over the top of it it but to play with your fingers and grab all the nuances with open strings, bass notes, bends is a trip. An absolute multitude of ways to play the same thing. Almost like using substitutions for a Jazz twat :D It all depends on what "feel" you're trying to achieve. Don't even get me started on good slide. Putting down the pick has been the biggest inspiration I've had in years.
