I watched the full Rig Rundown last night and now I want to try some P90’s. Kinda like playing through a Marshall, I’ve managed to go over 30 years without trying P90’s.

I recently have fallen in love with P90s. I have a set I designed that seems to just be killing every other pickup I play, humbuckers included.

I have my custom 'G90' set.

Neck: Planet Tone 1956 wound a bit hotter with A4 magnets.

Bridge: Planet Tone 1956 Hot wound a touch hotter with A4 magnets.


They absolutely can go from clean to scream!!!

I like Jared James Nichols playing style and his switch over to Marshall amps. He's a breath of fresh air in today's guitar music, seems to be an honest & down to earth kind of guy who's a tone chaser, and getting real guitar tones with his fingers/guitar knob settings a la Jeff Beck on a tube amp instead of all the amp modeling that some of the guitar players are using onstage these days.

I recently got a couple of P90 guitars & wish I’d gotten into them years ago. They really are a kind of sweet spot between humbuckers & singles for me, and they have this growl & microphone’ish character that’s very unique.

Don’t be afraid to use the tone pots. They make them really versatile. There are some amps where the top end will take your head off and rolling the tone back to 6-7 makes it really work.

Yeah the Throbaks I put into my es330 are pretty bright & feedback prone, I usually keep the bridge tone around 5, neck around 6.

They’re pretty finicky with some amps, making me turn a few more knobs to get a sound I want on any given day. They sound so glorious when dialed in where I want them though. I need to record something using some gain on the verge of feedback.

I bought one of the 1959 Modified 3 months ago. I've had every boutique Marshall Clone there is in the last 20 years and well I plugged into my favorite 412 loaded with Blackbacks and as they say there it was, It immediately became I'll sure as hell never sell amp. So much fun to play and you know exactly where you are in the mix. No more guessing. Life is good. Love this amp like no other. Glad to see it getting some more coverage, and great coverage.

I’ve been very lucky to play a few 50’s Juniors and Specials over the years and they always sounded incredible. Especially the dog ears. This perfect growl and never abrasive in the top end.

I got a real 1959 es330 last year, that unfortunately had the originals robbed long ago. I found some very nice Throbak recreations that sound fantastic, but I’d love to have heard what the stock p90’s sounded like.
