I've always felt that a big part of their exceptionally punchy, articulate, and in your face sound, was a result of the simple and pure signal path. I'm wondering how much that has been affected by all the new stuff on the MC II (bright switches, contour knob, saturation knob, fx loop, etc.). I just don't see how it can not be affected in some way.

wow man, where have you been?? like you I prefer the original circuit for the reasons you stated above- which is probably why he still offers the original design. I think the price is the same too. I have spoken to a few guys who have the new version and they like it as well. The term "smooth" has been used to describe the new transformers he is using on the m/c II and that gives me caution..traditional marshall tone is anything but smooth.
The term smooth is used when comparing an older MC to the new MCII. I felt the comparison is correct having owned both. The MCII is just a little smoother to the older model I owned. The older model had more of a piecing tone the MCII does not have. Smooth might not be the correct word but the MCII is smoother around the edges so to speak. Loop is very good Paul. The whole amp is. Just a huge sounding head with great tone and zero ghosting.LanierP":1hbfches said:lespaul6":1hbfches said:Jack71":1hbfches said:Awesome amp! I've had my MC2 for 3 weeks, and smooth isn't a word I would use to describe it character. This thing has a bark that is intense. Like another fellow said earlier, I've never had an amp move air like this thing. Uncompressed and aggressive as hell. This amp get more gain than my Friedman SS-100, and gives my V30's a workout that leaves em Smoken and gasping for air. Clean channel is the same way...amazing and again, moving serious air!!
This is for me an amp that is at a whole other level. Amazed every time I switch it on. Wow!
