I just got asked to be the sub guitarist for the Broadway rendition of Rock Of Ages at the Venetian in Vegas. Will be playing the show when a guitarist gets sick or takes leave. There are 2 guitar players; gtr 1 is Les Paul guy and gtr 2 is whammy bar guy. I have to learn both parts. Lots of Whitesnake, Poison, Mr. Big, Quiet Riot, Van Halen etc… Tons of whammy. I need a good guitar for this type of gig with a good Floyd Rose. Not looking to spend 2k on a Charvel, something under a grand, that looks cool and will stay in tune.

???

Japanese made Charvel promod will come in well under $1000

Yep, one of the pro mods...maybe with a setup for additional playability if you think it needs it. Another consideration might be one of the EVH specials or a used Wolfgang. They'll all do the part if there is a good Floyd and locking tuners.

how did you land that gig? that's an awesome score. Now let's see some vids of you polishing up your chops for the gig..

I was in a similar situation where I needed a Floyd Guitar for some material & didn't want to drop a lot of dough. I'm a die-hard LP guy, and since the Gibson was out of the question I rolled the dice & tried the Epi. It's a great guitar, especially for the dough. The only thing I don't like about it is the bar is in the way of the neck volume control. It ain't a Historic by any means, but it does the job I need it to & stays in tune! I think MF is still selling them for $399.

Great gig dude! I saw the show here in NYC when Dee Snider was in it was so much fun!

The Charvels are great and may be what you are looking for or any superstrat. My buddy is selling two i will PM you.

Schecter Hellraiser Extreme. I've never been much of a fan of the hellraisers but these new ones look and sound great. Haven't gas'ed for a guitar as much as this in a long while.

An American Jackson.

Should be able to pick one up for about a grand. It'll turn out to be one of your best.

Schecter's are under-rated and you can obviously find a killer guitar used in the sub $1000 market. With your connections it shouldn't be a problem.

Congrats on gig too, even if it is a backup role.

That's awesome. Let us know what you decide on and when you head out there

check out some of the Ibanez j customs on ebay. a couple guys from japan sell them on ebay for way less than people sell them here for. they place awesome, I mean really easy, stay in tune amazingly well, and sound good. here is a link to an ebay auction. contact the seller, offer him a little less its buy it now 1199, but I am sure they would take something off. there are a handful of j customs around 1000 to 1200. they are great guitars, very high quality.

If your used to les paul's and need a floyd, try a used peavey wolfgang or wolfgang special. Dive only takes the hassle out of a floyd.
Musicman axis would be an option also. Used should be around your budget.

I know a lot of that 80s' stuff needs a floating Floyd but I've never had sucess keeping one in tune. The best compromise I've found was using an EB/Musicman EVH with the blocked trem, you can not get the flutter but do dive bombs all day and stay in tune. A cheap option is the Axis version or get an Ibanez RG and block the trem. Oh and congrats on the gig that would be a blast.

Congrats on the gig! Floating Floyd's are dead stable as long as they are cared for the right way.

I've had great luck with any MIJ Ibanez. I'd pick up an '80s RG550 with a maple board in road flair red or that bright yellow. That will look the part and will likely out play guitar's costing four times what you'll pay for one.

Another vote for Charvel. My MIJ pro mod was way under $1k and is a dream to play. Great neck, great trem, oozes 80's metal but is really more versatile than that. I can almost smell aquanet and hookers when I play it.
