I emailed Kahler for the hell of it. He got back with me quick when I ordered that string lock.
aww shit...that sucks....supposed to be a 2220c according to Greco prints from the 80's.....Give us a shot from the side, that could have some more clues.
And jeez, I wonder what Gary is going to say if he gets back to you, I see now that's one of the Japanese counterfeits that Takeuchi made. There's no Kahler logo on it, which is a big tell. Should adjust the same, though, they are pretty true copies.
shit...Kahler got right back to me. They asked for a picture and I sent it. This is what they said about the locking screw-
"If your Kahler is from the 80’s then it won’t have the locking screw because that’s a feature that wasn’t available back then. We started offering the lock down feature in 2004. "
That's twice that they have gotten to me pretty damn quick with a response.
I had a usa custom shop pv falcon from that era that had the locking screw also. Wished I would have kept that one. It outstratted fender....That's weird because my first "good" guitar was a Peavey USA Impact 1 from like 1991 or 1992 and the Kahler on it had the screw to make it function as a hardtail.
And I always kept it in that mode![]()

just heard from them-
"Yup that's a counterfeit bridge. All Kahler bridges have the logo on them so that's a huge bummer.
If you'd like to replace it with a real 2200 Kahler with the lock down feature let us know."
well fuck.
dude I tell you what...this thing is a player....it rips Dave. Even with that fucked up bridge...Yeah, that is a bummer. You have to wonder, is this maybe another JS Greco that was modded with a "Kahler" rather than a JS98K? Like I said Greco used the actual, real Kahlers all over the place, so I'm surprised to see this on there.
yup....scottosan said they were screamers I believe. As far as this bridge being a counterfeit....I have to tell you-it's pretty fuckin nice. Solid and heavy duty. Not cheap and flimsy feeling at all.Yeah, man, don't doubt it at all. All the Grecos from that era are built to the same high standard, only difference between models is the hardware. With a real Kahler on there it basically is a JS98K no matter what it might have been originally. I can't remember, did you have the original pickups?
