Les Paul pickup recommendations?

Depending on how bright or dark your particular Les Paul is, that could turn a Duncan '59 neck quickly to whoomp/scooped-muddy citty!

Since I always wire my 2HB guitars with push-pull pots, I'll also take in account which humbuckers sound awesome when split.

Here are some recommendations that I actually use in Les Pauls:
Most versatile *and* great tone: (in my Greene/Moore/Kossoff LP std.)
DiMarzio Air Norton (neck) /
DiMarzio Norton (bridge)

Possibly best HB tone, but underwhelmed split-neck tone: in my Randy Rhoads LPC.
Duncan SH-16 Custom/59 Hybrid bridge
DiMarzio 36th Anniv. PAF neck (DP103)

Classic hard rock combo (but both split tones leave to be desired); in my Black Beauty LPC
DiMarzio Super Distortion (or Dual Sound) bridge
DiMarzio 36th Anniv. PAF neck (DP103)

But for something that can do EVH, as well as Tele tones from a Les Paul, the Norton/Air Norton combo is hard to beat. On the bright/crunchy side of things, not too overpowering; awesome cleans (especially Air Norton when split!!!).
Plus the Norton to me is the pickup that the JB aspires to be. :D
Norton is less piercing bright in the high mids, has a tighter and chunkier low-end and does the 80's cock metal harmonics just as easily. Think Dokken, Ratt.

Never tried in a Les Paul yet, but heard good things about them:
Duncan SH-12 Screamin' Demon (neck position); I have that in my ESP Horizon NT-II)
Duncan Pearly Gates neck

Wolfetone, BKP, and all, I'm sure they're nice, but way harder to 'just test' or even find decent videos/sound samples from. YMMV.

+3 on the 500k pots, that will help alot. From what I understand on the 50's wiring is that if you run your volume all the way up their won't be much difference to the stock 60's wiring.

The SD Jazz/JB is a nice place to start.

I am GASing for a Suhr Thornbucker for my '73 LP custom, but it may be too low output for what you want.

Depending on your guitars natural characteristics and the wood type(s)

Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelt
Bareknuckle Rebel Yells
Suhr Aldrich

For lower output I really like the Suhr Thornbucker

Good luck!
