Looking for some 4x12 opinions.

What amp are you using with your mesa cab? In my experience its best to talk about a cab/speakers with regards to what amp is going to be used. (maybe I missed the amp)

Have you thought about making a new back for your cab and converting it to a 3/4 back or changing speakers out?

Marshall cabs + craiglist = fat deals.

True, but I've never dug any of the Marshall cabs I've played out of. Even for just a touring cab, I don't think I'd be able to stand the sound.

Maybe it's because the cabs you played were loaded with speakers you didn't like. Personally i hate 75 watt celestions unless they're CRANKED. And i see plenty of Marshall cabs loaded with those speakers.

A checkerboard Marshall cab from the 70's loaded with Blackbacks sounds fantastic.

My '76 Blackback loaded Marshall cab sounds great, but I prefer my Bogner by a slight margin. I know you're playing a 'dive tour' but get a good cover for your 4x12 and buy something that sounds good - don't settle, I have several 4x12s because of that.

Get an endorsement. Put your kit together and go ask everybody for artist pricing. Paying retail for anything is complete bullshit if you're a touring act. You gotta eat mang.  Seriously though, ASK EVERYONE. Worst they can say is no, best they can do is give you what you want. My buddy just picked up his endorsement through Orange and his band have only played a handful of gigs.

My advice: go to walmart or some art & craft store & pick up some polyester (1-2 inch thick is the best) & staple to the back panel of your mesa cabinet & see if you like it. I've got some at walmart for my avatar, it was pretty cheap & I like the result. It doesn't have the amount of wood in the sound Bogner cabs have, but it doesn't fart nearly as much as it used to & the ear bleeding top end is gone. Definitely worth a try.
If you want to try my avatar 1x12 to get an idea how they sound like, let me know, you can have it for a couple of weeks.

Have you considered an EarCandy BuzzBomb? IMHO it easily held its own against Landry's Celestion 65watt loaded 4x12 slant cab (which sounded AWESOME btw). Mine has a pair of Eminence Swamp Thangs; 103db efficiency and 150watts a piece, so the cab is 300watts total. Very loud and very clear. I'd be willing to bring it over to your practice space if you want to try it out :D

I'm trying to work on getting a bunch of live/promo shots of myself with my Mesa gear and our bassist with is Ampeg gear (Ampeg FREAK). Ricky (our rhythm guitarist) is fucked with his Bogners

Is this kinda like the batting in the Bogners? I was considering this for a while, but was unsure if the results would be that noticeable. Hell if it's cheap, I should just do it anyway.

All about trying your cab out, mang. I remember playing a gig where the dude had 2 BuzzBomb cabs, and they sounded sick. He was using a Dual Recto and a Marshall JMP. Lemme know when you might wanna come on out. Do they make 4x12's? Not totally necessary, but I find I generally like 4x12's more then 2x12's for the music we play.

I've also been thinking about speakers. I accidentally miced up the Randall-branded CL80 in my cab at our last show, and I noticed my tone was a lot fuller and not as gritty sounding. Maybe some other speakers might do the trick tone-wise. Anyone have any suggestions there?

Thanks for all the input guys.

Nothing against Framus, but> "Don't do it!"

I think you have a better cab with a better resale value.

What makes you say this?

4 reasons, all of which are so dumb they may not add up to 1 good reason for many.....but we all have our ways of establishing our opinions, right?.....
1> Tried out a Framus cab when I almost bought a Powerball last year. I played that amp through 3 cabs (a Marshall & Engl too)....and the Framus sounded, by far, the weakest.
2> Just saw a band with 2 guitarists. The guy with a f**king Ibanez head (forgot they even made those!) had a way better tone than the guy with the cool looking Framus rig.
3> I'm a big Mesa fan/user.....so I'm biased on your question.
4> I hate when companies outright rip off another company's thing.....and Framus guitars now having the PRS birds on the neck pisses me off.

See?.....I told you they were stupid reasons! (but I stand by all of 'em)

Yes, it's the same exact thing.

Speakers? Well, you know what I'm gonna say :D

Those super heavy EVMs?

The truth is, if you are getting your rig miked, a Bogner OS 2x12 with a single EVM will sound bigger than your 4x12 with V30s.
