As far as I'm concerned I found my pickup manufacturer with ToneNerd pickups. I love the ones with by Chubtone explorer. The neck pickup is by far my favorite neck pickup. So basically any new builds I'm doing I'm putting those in. Scott also makes great recommendations based on what you are looking for. I'm hoping to get a japanese LP to mod and I will be adding these pickups and hopefully plek it with SS
Same. My last three pups are ToneNerd, no reason for me to look anywhere else.

I'm in love with my Aldrich bridge, lol, so just ordered the marching neck. :)

No, yeah. We all hear things differently. It's just that I've often heard of the JB being referred to as harsh-sounding. Never agreed, TBH. I find PAF-types A LOT brighter and easily get out of hand more.

But yeah, if you're using EMG's to compare, for sure it's going to come out as brighter.

But I still think the JB is one of best the passive pickups for us active pickup guys to try first in the passive world. Especially because as far as passives, it's so mid-focused and relatively familiar-sounding.

Give the Black Winter a try too. You might like it.

The Distortion and JB are rumored to be the same wind, just different magnet (sorta like the Custom, Custom Custom, and Custom 5). Never been confirmed officially. But even if they're not exactly the same, at least, they're similar. The Black Winter falls in that family too. The Invader too, but that one's not my favorite at all.
I will look into the Black Winter. The Invader is not one of my favs either, it's too dark, too bassy and not a very balanced pickup at all IMO. I can see why a lot of stoner/doom metal guys like them though.
