He's just another rude asshole that's all.

I think it depends on which sound you want more of. "Metal" is kind of general because each era has its own tone! Any of the recommendations in this thread would work fine.

If you want more of the 80's thrash tone, I would recommended the DSL more, or a Mesa Mark III if you can find one. If you want more of the modern tone of like Whitechapel, Machine Head, metalcore, etc... then the 5150 would be good. The 5153 would be a good modern version of that. If you want something thicker like Cannibal Corpse or Nevermore, then the Recto would be better, but I would recommend an OD pedal with those just to tighten up the sound.

It would probably be good to watch one of those "high gain amp shootout" videos on Youtube where they compare like 10 amps. See which flavor you like better.

Diezel herbert is your man!

Where are you finding herberts for under 1000?

I'd go for the EVH 5150 III :D

5150 III 100 watt if you want to get nice cleans for jazz in addition to metal tones.

Seriously aNY Diezel for under a thousand sign me up

Not on your list but I'd recommend a Pitbull 100cl.

IMO opinion of course you can't find a meaner amp for metal in that used price range and the cleans aren't half bad.

Edit: found this Soldano in the classifieds

Can't go wrong with this one either for $1k

I would be looking at a Mesa Tremoverb, Mark III or Fryette Deliverance.

If you're willing to spend around 1K all of these are great choices. And I would put the Deliverance up there with anything I've had...clarity, punch....it has it all. 2 or 3 MK IIIs on Guitar center .com for 800....and a Tremoverb right now here in the classifieds for a good price.
