Malmsteen demoing the Marshall YJM

YJM's got MAD skills... My life as far as knowing what a guitar was capable of, no, let me rephrase that, my life as far as knowing how a rock instrument could be used to convey such classic chops changed the day I first heard Rising Force. Guy seemed so untouchable. Granted I was still, and am still, blown away with RR at that time, and his premature passing, and my love for Ozzy and all things metal back then, but Yngwie just took it to a completely different level. And within seconds listening to him, I heard all the classical influences he'd obviously adopted and adapted.

But I think getting a sig model Marshall is just the machine doing its thang...

Marshall is up there with the likes of Gibby and others for being blatant marketers 100% of the way... I'm not saying it's a BAD thing, I'm just saying I don't "do" siggy models (EXCEPT FOR LES PAULS AND LETS JUST SAY THAT'S A GIVEN ALRIGHT :gethim: ).

Whatever, the psychology behind marketing - and we all know this - is offering something that makes us think we might garner something that gives us that extra level, the inspiration, the magical ability to play like [enter signature model rockstar person's name here]. C'mon, that's what it's ALL about!?!?!?! I haven't read much AT ALL on this forum about Yngwie's "tone". I've heard a LOT of peeps talk about his abilities - and damn I'm 100% DOWN with that - that cat's off the hook, period. Incredible guitarist. He's a bloody master. No denying it. But I haven't heard or read much about the interest in his "tone". Tool fans, there's many of us here, a lot of us own - taaaaadaaaa - Diezel VH4s. Slash fans, taaaaaadaaaaaa - the AFD and Plexi proper. Who likes LOG, betcha you like Mesas too. It's all there, and there's nothing wrong with it. But the fact is I'm wondering if Marshall took an odd turn here(?) because, of the stuff they've schlepped out in the siggy department, much of it has been tone based marketing. Yngwie's got less of a signature "tone" than he does a signature "style", and that's something I don't think anyone here can replicate.

Just my take on things. Since it's not 'tone' they're trying to convey with the YJM model, it's Yngwie himself they're trying to schlepp out. And since they're a bright enough bunch to know that those who buy will soon find out they're not any closer to playing like the master himself, they (Marshall) put a bunch of fiddlywink additions into the amp so it takes the prospective buyer longer to [try and] find that magic 'crystal lattice' in the amp, but at the end of the day, you're still you playing an amp. And you ain't Yngwie.

Funny, I actually find his tone instantly recognizable, more so the earlier Rising Force years and it's his tone that gets me to listen to him more than his style. He bores me to tears stylistically after a few minutes but I love that non-master Marshall on steroids tone he gets. It sings and roars all at the same time. It's the antithesis of the overly compressed and saturated, shredder tones of most who followed that I really dislike.

It's all subjective, really, innit?!?!? And with that being said, there's no right or wrong, I'm just of the mindset that his tone isn't what's driving the force of the marketing engine as much as gimmicks and add-ons. Would I say no to one if it was offered to me? No. Would I buy one at rack rate or even heavily discounted at rack rate? No.

Choice. It's a beautiful thing.

Agreed. I do think it's cool that Yngwie has sig guitars, pedals, and now amps. Because in a way it's giving respect to the guy who influenced me more than any other player during my formative years by a wide margin. I had NO interest in classical music until he came along. After that, I started learning violin concertos from the sheet music, and later-on went on to study classical guitar performance under a guitar program headed by Christopher Parkening. Had it not been for Yngwie, that would have never happened. He also "gave" me my technique. By learning his stuff note-for-note back in the mid-80s, I was able to go on and play whatever music I wanted to. I can't sit and listen to him endlessly any more, but I still enjoy throwing his stuff on once in a while and being taken-back to the "old days" when it was mind-blowing and inspirational to pickup some new guitar-oriented music.

As far as the sig Marshall goes... I'll buy one if I win the lotto, but don't have a lot of interest in it otherwise. The only sig amp I've ever been much interested in is the 1959RR. If I wasn't so content (aka "in love with") my XTC Classic, I'd have the RR by now.

I have no opinion on the Yngwie Marshall sig.

But Yngwie was on Jimmy Fallon??? Crap. Totally missed that one. Will have to go looking for it on the web...
It was on his website a while back. May still be there and on Youtube. He jammed with the band thruout the show..pretty cool.

Cool! Will go look for it! Very cool that Jimmy had Yngwie on there. I watch Conan pretty much every night, but his LAME alt-rock/weirdo musical guests are often such hack musicians that I watch mostly for comedic value.

He jammed with the band on their theme song. He seemed a bit lost at first, not his normal groove/ style. After that they played his tunes. He did well on those. Jimmy talked to him a bit too, it was right around the time his Guitar Player issue came out.

I wouldnt waste my time nor cash with a yjm signature like that. If I WAS looking, id be spending my money on a 70s JMP and I dont think id even check out demo clips for the yjm, call that a measure of just how uninterested I am in it.
