The other day I came across this video and the guy nailed completely the Malmsteen's tone of that famous REH VHS instructional video.

Not even Yngwie himself can get that tone anymore. I don't have words to say how freaking awesome it is.

So I plugged a strato into a DSL50, made some adjustments with a EQ pedal in front of the green channel (to change a few frequencies to make it sound a bit more vintage) and used a DOD308. I know that the DiMarzio HS-3 is an important part of the equation and a vintage DOD 250 would be a better choice, but I have seen a lot of guys using vintage Marshalls and getting horrible results. I eventually got a nice strat tone, but it was way far from that video tone.

Since I'm considering buying a plexi or a clone, here are the questions:

1. Does anybody here has got a similar tone with a plexi or JMP?

2. Is it possible to get that tone with a Metroplex?

Marshall YJM 100 amp.

I have never heard a sample or seen a video with the YJM 100 that could get close to that sound.

That guy nailed this tone:

What is it that you find so unique about that tone? It sounds more or less like Yngwie's typical lead tone to me.

Nowadays his tone sounds way more overdriven and harsh. I can get this tone with a DSL and an american standard strat:

I have always dug that tone in the REH vid, plus his playing is on fire. He truly makes it look effortless.
