Mancave lighting question

I like the Track lighting for main light source with some other lights as optional.
We have some stage lighting that we use when we drop the track lighting.
I have been using the track lighting for the past 6 years and no changing of bulbs!~ ;)

Definatley track lighting on ceiling...then get some of that rope lighting and go around the entire room for that extra "coolness" factor when the track lights are off

Ya know, the rope lighting would go nicely under the boards that I have the guitar hangers on... interesting ;)

I'd leave it like this, it looks way cool and not like the "typical" music rooms I've seen.

Multi directional track lighting for sure.

Avoid dimmers if you can, unless you like to hear buzzzzzziiinnnggg through your amps.

I just finished my basement/recroom and installed pot lights on two seperate dimmer switches. Lets just say these lights aren't on when I'm playing guitar. Lamps and accent lighting only.

Stay away from fluorescents and dimmers they cause a lot of noise in Strats. Halogen lights are nice but put off a lot of heat, looks like an attic room and in summer, would suck trying to keep cool. Ceiling fans great for air flow but can fuck up a guitar neck really fast. Track lights or some kind of radial design that aims light in direction. Rope light come in many colors with some ropes that will change up to 3 or more different colors.

I had fluorescents in my man cave and ripped them out after a week. I could turn in a circle and hear the light fade in and out.

I am all about indirect lighting. My suggestion- Get some nice track lighting and bounce the light off the ceiling.

The cat actually does shit in my mancave. Except it's more like 3 feet away. :(

I still have a mark i made on the wall to measure how high he jumped one day when he was dropping a deuce and I took my amp off standby with the volume on 5.

You just need a spotlight and a fan that will blow your hair backwards. Why don't you have a mirror? How can you practice looking awesome without a mirror? Come on!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, give Pete more ideas for more cool factor :aww:

Pete, where are you in Oklahoma anyways? Got ahold of BentSP and trying to meet for a beer or two.

I'm about 40 miles from Brent - I'm in Tulsa, he's about half way between Tulsa and OKC. When/where are you going to be in Oklahoma? Email me - okstrat@cox.net!

I will be in Tulsa for a retirement party for a former direct report, looks like we will get something going as my schedule this time is very open!

I will let you know. Around April.

I use umbrellas instead, but I'm a little insane.

I would also stay away from fluorescents. Their color rendering is usually really bad, they flicker, and buzz. I would also go with track lighting here and make sure you don't directly point them at the guitars. Getting a diffuser or even a piece of frost gel will get rid of harsh shadows, you could even put cool or warm gels to adjust the color temperature in the room.

Another thing that might look really good in that room is uplighting. You could get some small MR16s and place them on a track across the floor/wall joint to uplight the guitars. Put the ceiling track lights on one dimmer and the floor on another. Then you can mix light levels for "normal" playing lighting and then darker/moodier lighting for those times that you just want to space out and jam!

I would point the track lights to the ceiling, it looks white, it should be enough of a reflector to avoid direct lights.

After that you gonna need some sound absorbers in that room, I don;t see any sound treatment. When you get some acoustic panels in there you could use some rope lights behind the panels.
