Marshall Jvm410HJS Vs Engl Se

I've got an SE - never played through either of the JVM models - but if you dig, you can get very much any sound desired from that amp, the thing has scores of combinations of voicing. But, all of the ENGL's have their own voice particular to that maker. One of those things you can't describe with words - but you can say that about Marshalls, Bogners, etc. as well. Otherwise, getting different amps by different makers looking for and finding different sounds would be crazy...uh, hmmmm....OK, I'm back - as it's always said, you've got to give them a try. Best case is side by side. I"m sure our host would love to sell you both, then you could sell the one you ruled out...maybe the JVM to me...

I'm not a fan of the JVM series, but I'd pick pretty much anything over an overpriced Engl
Someone mention the Mark V? Now that's a whole lot better, if you like the Mesa Mark tone of course

The Engl SE has the distinction of staying in my possession for a shorter time than any other amp...I couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough

Of the two, I'd say JVM.

I like Engls. I like Marshalls too. They sound totally different. I think there has been enough awesome music made with each that you probably can't go wrong with either one, so you really need to try and find them to try out.

How about the Mark V'??

That would be a good choice. Honestly any of the amps you were looking amp will not hold you back.

One last thing...anyone who says marshall has better buiild quality than ENGL seriously has not owned a marshall (Newer ones not 70s and 80s ones)

Have you seen the inside of an SE? They mount all the circuit boards UPSIDE DOWN.....that's right, to replace a single tiny component on an SE board, the entire goddamned thing has to be removed.

Not to mention the boards themselves are thin and flimsy.

If you want Children of Bodom, then you must get the ENGL SE.
Have a look...

Have you heard Ola's demo of the JVM against a host of others?....Deizel D-Moll, Randall Thrasher, EVH 5150 III, and a bunch of other high gainers. I thought the Marshall sounded second best to the D-moll. I was very surprised. Any demos I've heard have been really good. Covers a lot of ground, which is what this guy is asking for. I'd go with the Marshall without hesitation.

Id go for the marhsall, purely because in later years you'll probably find yourself going for that sort of warmer EL34 type thing....

However, that Engl sounds good, its pretty unforgiving, but for modern metal I dont think you can beat it. Depends what you want....if you want a sound thats a bit different from everyone else, then best not go for the marshall I guess...

I decided for the Jvm,do you recommend to buy the half stack signature version or buy the head and another cab???

I would buy the head and a used 412 cab of your choice. 412 cabs on the used market are usually a pretty good value.

If you want to have the exact same sound as Satch, then get the half stack version. I wanted a bit of my own thing. I've been told that the matching cab is a bit darker. I didn't like the speaker choice that was in there.
What I did instead was I picked up a slightly used 1960AHW and it sounds stunning with the Satch head!

You'd probably have to listen to a few cabs with the head to see what you like. :)

I'm using the Satch JVM thru Marshall Vintage modern 4x12's. Sounds great.

I don't know anything about the JVM cab. There are a lot of good cabs out there though. I have a Marshal MF280, which was not on their list of elite equipment, but with good speakers it kills. Orange makes a killer cab. Mesa makes a killer cab. Lots of nice gear out there.

Easy pick...The Marshall JVM410HJS is a beast! Love that amp!!!! :)

I love Ola`s playing a lot, but you can`t judge an amp by his demos. To me, they all sound the same when he plays them. He has his own sound on everything he plays, witch is a good thing for him, not amp buyers.

IMO

But you are right about the JS, it sounds great.

Let`s not rule out the 5153, he could get a mint used one for close to $1000 and have a hell of an amp.
