The Tweaker will not get you there...Jet City or the Randall's would be better...

Tweaker with a pedal? Mind you, I've ran a Wampler Pinnacle through a 71 Pro Reverb with a separate cab and Celestions in it and gotten fairly close...

If I ignore the "portability" factor...what would you buy for $1000? Mind you, I don't currently have a cab...been dragging a combo around.

Randall or Egnater modular is the way to go. It cured may gas a couple years ago.

if it was me I'd probably go the pedals + small head route something around 30w - has more of a oldschool classic tone which i dig

say:

mesa boogie transatlantic ta-30
orange dual terror

but otherwise the 5150iii 50w sounds like the ticket for what you're after and super portable

theres a new jca22h double deuce on e-bay for sale now at a great price.

This, hands down. However, I wouldn't say its "super" portable. The head still has some size to it.

Well, still haven't bought anything...no one in town has a 5150 III 50 watt in stock to try. I played the Mini Rec again and dig that a lot...I tried the smaller Splawn's and they are really great but out of my price range. Guitar Denter has a used DSL50 that sounded really good through an OS Egnater 2x12 cab. I dumped the idea of the Egnater Tweaker and pedals...bah...The H&K's seem to be sold out all over town as well...I was able to play the 18 through a new Marshall 4x12 and I'm not sure I like it as much as the 36 but for the price of the 36 you can get a Mini Rec or mini 5153...

I'd really like to try the 5150 before I make a decision...I'm even toying with racking it up again with the right pre & power amp and a 1x12 like a Bogner cube or Thiele cab.

Anyway...no real updates I guess, not sure this is that interesting. Right now I'm just jamming at the house via Overloud TH2 and my monitors

Oh yeah, the JCA22H kicks ass...that one is really piquing my interest in the low $$$ category

Another vote for the 5153 Mini,or full size if you score a killer used deal. While these amps tend to be the flavor of the month often, and are right now on various forums, they are absolutely fantastic. If I was going to go back to using amps, I'd probably buy a 5153. Just an all around great amp, and will probably be the amp you come home with after you hear all 3 of its channels.

I played a 5150 III 50 watt...oh my. I stayed on the second channel for about an hour through an EVH 4x12...

I need to find a way to make this work but my budget isn't stretching as far as I want, nor am I sure I can play it in the house and control myself from cranking it and upsetting family harmony thus upsetting my recreational bedroom activities :D

Anyway...weird for me sitting on cash for gear this long, but not bad...

Anyone played the BFG or Friedman modded JCA22H's?
