Dave seems to be getting some bad press lately. From Chuck Billy telling a story about Dave being a total asshole on a Judas Priest tour, to Marty badmouthing the camp.

Dave was an insecure junkie at that point..
I had to look up the Marty thing. And had a little laugh about this:

""Had it been more of a band situation and not such a one-man, Dave Mustaine-main-man party, I might have considered doing it for a little less," Marty said. "But, at the end of the day, MEGADETH is so much Mustaine because that's the way he engineered it. I didn't feel that kind of camaraderie, the four-man diamond, THE BEATLES, KISS, METALLICA."

Beatles, okay.
But Kiss and Metallica?

Gene and Paul and two "anyones" with star-eyes and cat whiskers

And Metallica? Two gigantic egos and a bass player and lead guitarist?

Beatles okay but Metallica have egos?

Like John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn’t had an ego (bigger than Jesus!).

Actually, the Beatles look like the version of Metallica you talk about: two gigantic egos, a lead guitarist and some ugly dude there doing something..

Probably true :D
But I still say that Het and Ulrich are more OCD control freaks.
Lennon and Macca were more of an eternal pissing contest.

Interested to see if there is much gear talk or pics in the book.
The 'Back to The Front' MoP book had some cool studio pics, but mostly just ones that are easily found on the net in a larger and clearer format.

Just got it this weekend. Gotta finish the book I'm reading this week before I can crack open Dave's new book next week. Looking forward to it. Dollars to donuts he brags about what a badass he is...like he did in his last book.

Mustaine is a genius. Want proof? Just ask him.

By the end of the Beatles, those two couldn't have been more different. McCartney was writing these "happy" tales about life and John's was totally the other direction. Lennon never played "safe" with his songs. Paul wrote his to be played as anthems.

Agree about Metallica for sure. I think Lars always wanted more control over the way Metallica sounded and stayed true to the tones, etc. With James, he was OCD but I think it was more about not ruining the image. He definitely was less flexible about ANY type of change.

I love it in "Some Kind of Monster" when Lars tells Dave that his son's favorite band was Megadeth and Dave said something like "did you punish him for it", etc. LOL!

The book is a quick read. Mostly it is about being dope-sick,trying to get sober and failing over and over, and whining about money. Wish I had bought it used...only because it was just a lot of complaining cut with a little bit of bragging. Should have just bought a Megadeth greatest hits CD instead.

Yeah I just got it and without even reading it yet i can see it's a small book and that pissed me off so after hearing everything here combined with the price makes this a fail, wtf Dave

Right? He could have padded it a bit(and fed his guitarist fan base like me)by talking a bit about the gear they used. But if you noticed on the cover it says "New York Times bestselling author of Mustaine". So he wasn't really writing it for us guitar nutjobs,he was writing it for the masses(cough..money..cough).

The funniest parts are where Dave injects comments between other members statements. Like when Marty comments about writing or money,Dave says "Uh huh." You wind up feeling sad for Junior more than anything here. But Dave really is the reason for Megadeth, so he makes the money. He is the writing talent...and he lets you know it.

Like him or hate him... it’s Dave Mustaine’s band. He can and will do as he pleases. His rules. And I don’t blame him one bit.

Just like Metallica is Hetfield’s band. Hetfield is Metallica... Mustaine is Megadeth.
