Mesa Cab Question

So I just scored a Mesa Traditional Slant 4x12 to pair with my Mark IV. It sounds so fucking killer, I want another one. I really dig running two cabs, so I’d appreciate some suggestions. Should I get a Traditional straight? I’m thinking a Standard would go well with it. The focus and tightness of the Traditional, with the girth and low end of the Standard? I’ve also got a Trem-O-Verb on the way, if that matters. What say you?

This Traditional is awesome. My Mark IV sounds great through my two Marshall’s and Splawn cabs, but this Mesa cab takes it next level. Way more focus and punch. The Mesa V30’s sounds killer. Darker and smoother than the Marshall and Bogner ones. I can stand directly in front of the slant cab and there’s no harshness or obnoxious mids. Do it man, do it.

This Traditional is awesome. My Mark IV sounds great through my two Marshall’s and Splawn cabs, but this Mesa cab takes it next level. Way more focus and punch. The Mesa V30’s sounds killer. Darker and smoother than the Marshall and Bogner ones. I can stand directly in front of the slant cab and there’s no harshness or obnoxious mids. Do it man, do it.

I had a Mesa Standard(Recto), Traditional, Rivera and Bogner at the same time, all slants with V30s. All were killer, the Mesa Traditional and Rivera sounded almost identical. The Mesa Standard was less tight but more low end than the traditional, but still killer. The Bogner was the warmest sounding, maybe more vintage sounding. Both the Bogner and Rivera had Chinese V30s and both had the batting in the cab.
For the tightest response you'd want another Mesa Traditional..but the recto(standard) is tight enough and will add some lows. If you can find a Rivera they usually run cheaper and sound spot on to the Mesa Traditional.

Another cool option is an old Mesa halfback with EV/C90s...they don't give up the goods until you turn up but when you do it's damn amazing.

For a Mark IV I highly recommend a traditional straight. I had a trad slant and the only head I ever liked it with was the IV. The straight however kills with all heads.

For the Tremoverb I recommend either the trad straight (tight) or the standard straight (huge). Not either slant.

I once bought a Mint Recto cab used from some dude off Craig's List. Drove there kinda far after a snow storm.. Finally got there and it was so mint that I didn't notice that it was a Recto sized cab.. It sounded like dogshit with my Mark.. I was stuck with it for a couple years.. LOL

definitely a traditional straight. I had the oversize and kept flipping heads. I have not flipped an amp since I got the traditional straight. I have a dual, a triple, a mark iv and a 6505+ with the 6505 mod plus the cameron mods. They all sound killer.

just add a drop of fabric softener on the cone of each speaker and you are good to go. best sound ever. takes out the mid spike of the v30s

Good stuff. I’d love to get a Halfback, but I can’t always crank the shit out of my amp when the wife and daughter are home. When they gone, all Hell breaks lose though. I’d like to score a Traditional straight. Kind of hard to find though. There’s like 50 slants for every straight.

My Tverb was way too harsh with the OS straight, and way too dark with the OS slant I had. Just one person's experience. In hind sight I should have sold the cabs, not the head.

If I could ONLY have one cab for 4-powertube amps it would be a trad straight, and I'd pay up to full price to get one.

Yeah, I’m not gonna go the Standard route. I had a Mills cab, and I’m not into the OS cab sounds. I prefer tight and punchy, over big and boomy. I’ve been watching for a Traditional straight. I also have a Splawn straight cab I could change speakers in to make it an 8 ohm cab, so I can properly pair with the Mesa slant. That’s also a killer cab. I wonder if that cab would hang with the Traditional straight cab.

I'm running a Mesa Traditional Straight and a Rivera K-412 right now. The Rivera is pretty spot on with the Mesa cabs. Mine is an older model with V30s from before China was a thing. The thing that upset me when I got this traditional cab (had another one that went away in a sweet trade), is that it came with Greenbacks. The seller didn't tell me until I was ready to buy it. I was all set to swap V30s with my Recto straight/slant, but it sounded killer. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Now I run the Trad with the GBs and the K-412 with the V30s and love it.

Anyways, the Traditional Straight with the V30s is my favorite cab I've ever owned. I would recommend that. If you can find a Rivera cab, I second that also.
