Yeah all mesa's are tricky to dial in outside of the dyne. I don't know why people complain that there is only certain sweet spots on this amp when every recto and mark I played is the same way. I run mine with a v30 loaded diezel cab and still don't think it's harsh. It might be the cab itself though or because my v30's are well worn in.

I'm not a Recto guy myself, and it sounds like you've never played a IIC+. There's more than a few tones in that amp.

I haven't played a IIC+ however I did own a no stripe mark III. I'm not saying there are only a few tones in boogie amps, I actually think they are all very versatile but you can't say that they all don't have their sweet spots. I mean with my mark III I had to run the treble very high to increase the gain. Boogies aren plug and play amps. I would assume a lot of people run the IIC+ with the treble high as well, what's the difference between that and having to keep the presence or treble low on a stiletto?

For me Boogies have always come to life after a tube change. Many Boogies sound a little harsh and/or bright with the stock tube compliment. I've found that a hot set of JJ's gets the bias up and warms up the tone a LOT.

My recto came to life after putting JJ's in and my buddy's Mark IV did the same. The fixed bias is always set a little cold. A stiletto would rip with some proper glass installed.

Some people think the JJ's are too muffled or warm sounding. I've heard the term "blanket over the speakers" used, but IMO they compliment the somewhat jagged and edgy boogie voicing perfectly!

Got it and its sweet,I also got a couple engls at the same time so it is cramped but I did notice it is particular to guitars.

Yeah, I have an ash strat that doesn't sound to great through it. Koa Charvel, that's a different story.

If you get a Duece I, make sure you install the "hollywood mod". It makes all the difference. I have all the info for the mod if you ever need it.

What exactly does the "Hollywood Mod" do? I have a Stage I & honestly, from the clips I've heard with this mod, & also the Stage II, I can't really tell much difference between any of them?

Could you PM the info so I could check it out?

Thanks!

:) It makes the voice more modern half way to a version II and makes Fluid drive unusable many have said. I have a Trident and decided not to do it because when I did a direct A/B with a version II with the same guitar and cab and liked the more vintage voice of version one better.

As said above keep the high-end very low. I also feel the poweramp needs to be turned up to get the best sounds from it. If you run the poweramp hotter a lot of amps well sound better with a lower bias. It tends to be harsh if you do not do these things.

Tube V1 has most effect on gain and tone in almost all amps and checking out a few different preamp tubes here can make a huge difference in most amps.

Well I put them in and it didnt blow up lol
The current topped at about 29 meh,, kinda cold turn on the rectifier straight down to 16 even when the spongy switch is flicked dropped it to 16 ma

Are you talking about the power tubes or the rectifier tubes? I specified a rating of 45 when I ordered my power tubes and that brought my bias readings from 19ma with stock tubes to about 36ma on channel 2 and 44 ma on the clean channel.I never messed with the rectifier tubes. They are still stock.

I replaced all of them the darn things said 27.2 so they were pretty dead on next time i will do as you did and see..
Im probably gonna try the bias mod for kicks..

i swapped power tubes to SED's, and that was light years better than stock.

never messed with the Rectifier tubes, but seems like i used them some, where i never did on a recto.

seems like you mentioned chinese power tube somewhere, bet they'd be allright?

would love to try a stilletto and a rectifier in stereo. i used to run a tverb and a 2203zw in stereo and it was the shit. mesa and marshall go together like pb&j.

the Stiletto and Recto are awesome together!

crazy thing is, they're voiced so deferent you can hear what the other amp is doing when directly in front of the deferent one.

Switch them back one at a time. You may have got a bad tube. It is very common.

Damn I really loke this amp.
Bought a cryoset of eh 6ca7 and dougs tubes mesa 5 pack pick
Bought the 6ca7's at high rating to use till I get the mansfield mod
It accepts dirt really well..
