I wonder if anyone can help with some thechnical info. I've asked people who I thought should know but still haven't been happy with the answers.

I have been running a Mesa Triaxis and using a Mesa Mark 3 combo as my power amp until I can get a 2:90 (connecting the output of the Triaxis to the FX return of the Mark 3). This setup seems to work well so until I get the 2:90 it will do the job. However I sometimes for convenience use the Mark 3 on its own. The amp works fine on its own but I am trying to run a Boss GT8 in the effects loop of the Mark 3 with not much luck. I had been having trouble with the Mark 3 FX loop for some time and eventually had it modified with another tube added. I was told this was to overcome impedance mismatch of the FX loop and my FX processor which at that time was a Korg A3.

My problem is that no matter how little level I send to the GT8 from the FX loop, the GT8 overloads. I've tried adjusting the GT8 input with -20db but still no luck. Any suggestions what I can do about this? Thanks in advance for any help.

Problem may be with the GT-8. Check the input level knob on the back of the GT-8 and not just in the software. Also check that the GT is set for the correct output type (should be "Combo Return" in this case if memory serves). Also, make sure all of the amp modeling and preamps/stomps are off on the GT-8.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your suggestion. I am aware that there is an output level knob on the back panel of the GT8 but not an input Knob. I'll have another look. The only way I know to limit the input is with the software. I also checked the output select and it is set to combo return. I definitely have all the amp models, cabs and distortions off. I only use ambient sounds...reverb, delay , chorus etc. All my crunch and lead sounds come from the Mesa, but the GT8 overloads even on clean sounds. I can kind of get it to work with the gain on the Mark 3 really low..around 3. It seems to work OK in the Triaxis FX loop but not in the Mark 3 FX loop when I'm using the Mark 3 just as a combo.

I used to run a GT8 years ago in w/ my mark III. I was running it 4-cable method if I recall right. It seemed to work well. Try the bossgtcentral forum for help if you can't get it working.
guitar>gt8input, gt8fxsend>ampinput, ampfxsend>gt8fxreturn, gt8output>ampfxreturn
can't remember what you need to do in the gt8 software, been too long but I know it works

Thanks I'll give that a try. I did try the 4 cable method with the Triaxis but it was hard to get the input level to the Triaxis correct. Maybe it will be different for the Mark 3. Thanks again, I'll let you know how it went. Regards

Thanks but the 4 cable thing didn't work. I may have to replace my processor with something else.
