Don't understand this at all. The real reason is not out in the open I think. They don't explain it. Why a big amp builder wouldn't attend an event that is followed not only in the U.S, but all around the world via YouTube and forums like this is beyond me. Sounds more like they are having problems.

I'm sure they always enjoyed hearing about how crappy their amps sounded in NAMM videos from all the YouTube experts.

Mesa's too busy trying to capture "that British tone". They should just cut the crap and get back to reissuing the good stuff and what they did best.

The Royal Alantic is one of their best amps in years. And since everyone has tried to capture the recto tone for the past 20 years maybe they just don't care what anyone says.

I get it. Mesa is realizing that MOST people buying their amps aren't attending the NAMM show. So instead of spending money and time attending, they are choosing to stay put. I get that decision -- it's not like they don't already have their names out there in the lexicon of guitarists everywhere. I think they are trying to just provide their wide customer base with BETTER VIDEOS than what they've been putting out in the past, while not relying on posting noisy NAMM demos online for fans to see. Seems to make sense. I hate watching the NAMM videos because of the chaos. I much prefer controlled environment demos so I can better assess an amps potential.

Agree completely. I don't think I could stand being there. It seems like Guitar Center on steroids. It's like every guitarist has to show everyone how he sweep pick and weedly-weedly. It becomes a pissing contest for metal dudes and guys with money.

+ Ad Infinitum

Couldn't have stated it any better. The NAMM Show videos are totally annoying. If I can't stand the chaotic atmosphere of GC, I doubt I would be able to kick it at NAMM. It would be like high school all over again, watching all the kids that think they're cool try their hardest to play up their credibility. It's the antithesis of good time IMO. I can't even contemplate why you'd spend the money to attend in the first place -- save the loot and get yourself some gear.

I thought NAMM was for guitar players and friends to get together to share drinks and to post threads on the Internet about gear they're not going to buy in the first place?

They DO explain it -- read the blog. Randall Smith speaks openly about his decision not to attend.

You make it sound like MOST of the people buying their amps attend NAMM on an annual basis. I don't think that is the case.

Mattias "IA" Eklundh is the guitarist for the intro music of the first clip. Great player.

Nice photo -- is that Famke?

Maybe they just didn't have enough time to remove their new amp from its Soldano chasis.

NAMM is a dog and pony show. Is it really helping established companies to sell their products? I never been to NAMM. If I were a dealer selling the MFG products then I'm sure Mesa et al would make me aware of their new products and pricing. As a customer if I'm interested in a product I go to their website, research it, find where I can purchase it and go check it out if I feel like it. If I really like it I buy it without ever laying my hands on before the purchase. I've bought Bogner, VHT, Splawn, Mesa/Boogie, Soldano etc all without trying our first and not because of NAMM

Wow, way to spread a lie, eh? I love the 'net -- it gives people time to slander. I don't know which is worse -- bogus Internet information or NAMM.

Let me guess, the Dual Rectifier is a rip off of Soldano's SLO amp, right?

True, but isn't that going to happen anyway? Just not sure how smart it is not to be visible on such a large industry event, presenting your new stuff etc.

"We aren’t trolling for new dealers" - an adequate explanation? :aww: Ok.

Of course I don't think most amp buying people attend NAMM. But many follow it on the net, seeing what is new this year etc. Whatever, it's their choice :)

I think Mesa is realizing more and more the full potential of the Internet. Does seeing what was released at NAMM make you want a product any more than if it wasn't? Take the Mini Rectifier for example -- it wasn't released at NAMM, yet that amp is getting tons of cred -- great reviews from guitar magazines, great user reviews, etc. If you are Mesa, and you realize that most of your customer base isn't the few attending NAMM, then why continue to pander to such a crowd? Why not utilize that money towards areas that WILL help your product -- such as Internet demos.

At the end of the day, NAMM isn't what wows or excites me. It's the product and the clips I hear of such products. Considering the Mini Rectifier's growing appeal without NAMM, I'm not entirely sure there is an argument that could be made that Mesa needs NAMM.

Yeah, I agree. That is why Mesa put the link at the bottom of their new Mini Rectifier video. It reads, "To view the real MESA/Boogie Mini-Rectifier Twenty-Five Demo Video, go to ... ." You are right, people want to hear how amps sound. With the Internet, all that matters is getting those clips out there. Who cares if the clips were done at NAMM. That is what Mesa is relaying in their parody -- no more bad clips from NAMM. No more relying on the NAMM Show to get new products out to the world. Why use NAMM, when you have the 'net?

I bet more people are now talking about Mesa not being there than if they were there. :D

I get it. I've never been to NAMM. And I usually find out about new gear through the internet. You think Mesa really needs to go to NAMM to find dealers? I doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes a trend by other big names as well.
