I could tell he really liked the guitar when he saw it, might have had something to do with it. He signed a couple of other items for me that didn't look as nice.
I forgot mention during the Q&A session, Steve said the funniest question he gets asked is, "How did Ralph Machio get so good to be able to beat you in that movie?" Yeah, we all laughed pretty hard about that one.
Now that is very cool. As a student was there somethingtthat you either heard or saw in his playing that we have heard through his recorded music. For example about 10 years ago I took lessons with Rusty Cooley in Atlanta and he is far more versatile of a guitar player than someone may think from his music which is not meant to be a criticism but more of an observation.
BTW Death by Uberschall- thanks for sharing. That must have been such an awesome experience. I had the opportunity to meet Paul Gilbert 2 years ago at a seminar he did at GC on Sunset. It is great to meet people who inspire you as a guitar player and get to see that they are also great people.
