Or Fight..... :rawk:
Uh, or Suffocation
stooooooop! i know! 3 of my top bands used 'em...perhaps more?
Or headlessdeadguy uh err?

Randall RG100ES + a boost pedal, without a doubt.

The Ampeg VH-140C heads are good too, but they are a little stale sounding. You don't get much feel or response from them... while the old Randall's are almost tube like (they sound their best LOUD too), but with the SS tightness.

I would go with an all tube amp. You have several in you're price range that are great for metal. You will get a much better tone with an all tube amp.

Depends on your definition of good tone i guess?

My Randall's have more than kept up with my tube amps.

Misery Index also runs at least one VH140C live, and the other guitarist runs the Crate version of the same head.

Yes sir.. As did Jack Owen from CC, I believe.
thought so. i know a guy in claremont, ca that bought an old suffo crate from hobbs himself. the amp sucked tho...needed some work. lolz

Most solid state amps may sound ok around the house, but sound like crap in a live situation. If you want great tone, go all tube. Solid state is great for keeping manufacturing and maintenance costs down, but when you take price out of the equation and just go for the best tone you can get, all tube wins EVERY TIME!

you forgot to state that that's your OPINION.

suffocation, fight, dying fetus, pantera, distrubed, static-x all played out of the house. you may not like their tone but others do. so tubes don't necessarily win everytime.

I used to get pretty good tones boosting my old Marshall VS 8100 head with a DOD EQ.

Disturbed as far as I've ever read have always been tube.... Studio is Randall MTS and Bogner Ecstacy, live Randall MTS.... (correct me if I'm wrong ;) )

Static X.... sure they play SS, but their BEST tone was when they were playing VHT

Pearce G2R

I think someone just hit best solid state right on the nose... Good luck ever finding one, they pop up on ebay once every 3 years

the crate gx130c is the best bang for the buck id say, and i have that, an ampeg, and a randall century and rg100. you dont need any boosts or anything either. they are on ebay all the time for 200 bucks and under. cannibal corpse used them on "the bleeding". heres a cool clip of them using it

check out my band, we used the gx130c in the studio

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, because I am way too lazy to scroll through all the posts, but I say go with a 5150 or 6505. Those can be had for well under 1k and they sound great for that style of music.

One of my favorite "bang for the buck" amps by far.

Randall C200
Line6 whatever their latest/greatest is
Marshall Valvestate vs100

The Pearce solid state heads were REALLY frickin' nice, but I don't necessarily think of them as a "metal" amp per-se. They excelled more at the in-between type tones.

But hey check out the Pearce anyway - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTxYOXtnPKg

Used Ampeg VH140C $450
