Should've known there'd be a bunch of negative comments.
No shit huh,,Just remember when we play the stadium, no wah!  That being said I think they both needed another cab!

Dunno, was disappointed, like I am anytime I see Metallica play recently (with the exception of James and Rob)

Fuckin' Hetfield is ALWAYS doing the Hetfield...He can't help himself. Even in this circumstance (no band behind him, National Anthem)...There he is, legs spread wide, dramatic facial expressions and the big over-pronounced up-pick strokes. I love this guy...Always have. Metallica has certainly had it's ups and downs (like any mega-group that's been around 30 years), but Hetfield has ALWAYS delivered. In many respects, he's just the man.

Loved it.

I thought it was cool. Het hit some very nasty sounding chords in a couple of spots

Never wanted to headbang to the national anthem before. Beats the ever-loving snot out of what pop musicians do to that piece on a regular basis.

Err... No it doesn't

I liked it overall, even the wah. I liked the tone, especially James'.

If I must critique I would have to say once again Kirk's vibrato was the worst part. It is the most unmusical vibrato I have ever heard, for any instrument. Kirk has the Tiny Tim vibrato syndrome. It makes me nervous.

Kirk was pretty unsure about the notes sometimes, hitting a wrong one and sliding into the right one ... he sounded like a total noob to me. Unfortunately nothing where the Meathead could really shine.

Probably cold/crampy fingers on such a gig.

James was very fine indeed, also his tone was real nice, if a bit dark maybe.

I doubt most of the beer filled punters there (just up for a good time) could care less about the intricacies of the tone or the timing. :)

Pretty cool in my book.

If all of the above people who care to critique them fell so strongly.. then why are you not up there ? And your names are ?? Ive never heard of any of you in the industry before. Fuckin whinning bitches is what you are. Eh.. the tone stinks, Kirts sloppy... blah blah blah... and you are where right now ??

Then there should never be any music/movie/art critics, sports commentators, political analysts, etc.

- "How did you like that movie?"
- "Can't comment, I don't make movies myself"

People are entitled to their opinion. Just like its your opinion that no one should critique them. They get a higher amount of criticism because of their fame. Saying the tone was thin or Kirk was a bit sloppy has mostly factual elements to it. Did you watch the video?

I can give small critiques and still say "that was cool"...

I sure as hell wish I could have their "shortcomings"!!!

I thought this was a pretty good rendition. Needs less wah though....

I concur. Hetfield, who just looks SO MUCH more comfortable playing a guitar than does Kurt, nails the harmony. The wah seems to act as a "THIN THE TONE" pedal in this case...why did he do that? Perhaps he thought he was going to cover up the various little mistakes he made?

Anyway, despite my criticism I thought that was all around good stuff!!

You guys ever hear Reb talk about Kirk? How shitty his vibrato is and how bad a player he is? Well I would have to agree.. as someone mentioned, that vibrato was horrible and the timing was not on. The beginning sounded cool when they were doing the harmonies. Reminded me me of something of AJFA. Then the wah came in.. of course it did! He can't leave that thing alone.

On a side note, anyone else notice how Kirk looks a bit like benjamin button? Getting older but still has this kids face.

I don't mind them playing it straight, but it did not say much for Hammett as a musical guitarist of any sort (not that I ever thought he was, anyway). Sounded unrehearsed and not as polished or ambitious as I think they could've done. On the flip side, most of the 14-year-old kids should have no problem transcribing Jaymz/Kirk's version note-for-note.

All I have to do is listen to what "The Industry" has been turning out since the early 90's, to know that being well known has everything to do with the amount of ca$h you have behind you, and nothing to do with actual talent or ability.(not implying that Metallica doesn't have talent) If we followed that logic, Madonna, Little Wayne, and Miley Cyrus would be free to critique a guitarist, while those that actually play remained silent.
I like some Metallica and have most of their stuff. Kirk is well known in the industry, and most that are in to heavy music know who he is. He has lived the dream that most young players aspire to. None of that changes the facts that he is the weakest link in his band, nearly all of his solos sound tentative, and that even though he has more means than the average unknown player, he hasn't done anything to improve his playing over the years.
Anyway, I would rather hear this at an event opening than a Whitney Houston type singer that stretches every word out for 10 minutes.

That was totally bad ass, despite all the haters. Haters gonna hate. I found no matter what you do in life, there is always going to be some one that doesn't like it. More the reason not to give a flying fuck. Most of people who talk shit about another are so bored in life they've got to dump on some one else to make their lives seem more exciting.

...Haters gonna hate.
