My new TC Electronic G-Major II... It adds 'white-noise' to what was a quiet signal. My 22 year old Rocktron Intelliverb adds no noise at all. :dunno:
Odd. My GM2 is perfectly silent, in fact, that was one of the selling points for me.
Hmmm... I'll mess with some more tomorrow.

AXE-FX.

Endless tweaking to get decent tones, cumbersome interface, and the high gain sounds didn't have much variety.

Oh, and the endless software fixes that thing constantly needed (via FW updates), which totally wrecked the presets you spent hours (or weeks) perfecting.

And we can't leave out the militant fanboy Axe community. It was like being in a cult. No criticism was ever allowed, and everyone had to agree feverishly and often that the Axe was the best thing created.

The day I sold the Axe FX was a big relief.

Bbe sonic maximiser 442a

When you compare the tone with and without using the bypass button on the unit, it was only ok. But when i have compare the unit on and bypass by my bradshaw looper, it was the worst tone sucking i have ever buy.

Mmmm... I've played guitar for only 4 years now (started at 23)... I've had a Gibson SG Classic, Ibanez Prestiege 2550, Ibanez AM93, Marshall MG15, Egnater Rebel 20, several pedals... and have never had a "bad" piece of gear. I now only kept a 2011 Fender American Standard and a 2012 Gibson LP Standard Doublecut and am using GR3 through Senheiser HD280's as I can't have any volume at home (neighbors).
I think stuff is already so good that I only sold my first guitar because I wanted to change, not even upgrade.

All that said, I have 1500 to spend, what's up for sale? :D

Diezel amps have a vibe to them that some like, some don't. However, I tried a Herbert that I liked and I owned an Einstein and couldn't sell it fast enough, hated that thing. I thought I would have liked the Einstein since I liked the Herbert......nope.

See, it was the total opposite for me
Loved the Einstein, got the Herbert, didn't like the Herbert (it's good for the br00t4lz)

Peavey 5150.....it sounded like a buzzing mess.

I agree. I've never understood the love for this amp.

Andy Sneap has said that with an overdrive pedal it's the best sounding amp he has recorded. Of course I am paraphrasing but he gets GREAT metal guitar tones. He sees tons of amps and for him to say that, I think it means something.

In my case, out of all the amps I have owned and tried, the 6505+ is the one I always go back to. Easy to dial in, sounds great with v30s, cuts like crazy, and records awesome.

MXR 10 Band EQ for $80. Tried it before and after my Disto+ and hardly anything so I pushed volume, gain and mids aaaaall the way and still hardly any difference! Even only the treble lights were lighting up!

Turns out it runs on 18v instead of 9... Whoops...

But besides that the only gear I owned were $100, $200 guitars. I guess the $200 low end Iceman I bought when I was 14 or so was a little underwhelming... I expected Paul Stanley's guitar and got the one that barely had that barb on the horn and was tiny as hell!

Axis Excalibur EP-1 preamp. I got it damage and had it repaired (for quite a bit of money) and it ended up sounding like a fucking mess. It would of been cool for a stoner band maybe or experimental group, but for regular guitar tone, nope. I suppose it is possible that it was not repaired to run to spec and something happened there...

Diezel VH4. It's not that it sounds bad, it just didn't sound particularly great. Certainly not $3000 great, which is what I paid for it. Traded it for an Engl SE and never looked back.

Peavey 5150 - I love the way it sounds by bands that use them, but no matter how I dialed it in, it sounded like a buzzing mess. Sold it and bought an Engl Powerball, which was the sound that I heard on record when I heard a 5150 all polished up nice and pretty.

Well, tone is certainly subjective, but I can tell you as an ex-Powerball owner in a band where the other guitarist plays a 5150 II that the latter shits all over the former!

Also as an ex- VH4 owner...it's a great amp :)
