Oh wow, I find the Sovtek wafer 5881 totally different than a SED 6L6...almost like they're opposite ends of the 6L6 spectrum. That is...SED in a BF Fender and wafer 5881 in an SLO but not the other way around.
It’s just soo amp dependent....when I got my first SLO I had a quad of SED 6L6 that I was looking forward to putting in. After 5 minutes back in went the Sovtek wafers. C+ love Sylvania 6L6/415s but Rectos don’t care WHAT tube you have in imo.
Newer production amps don’t seem to favor NOS tubes either in my experience.

So true. I built my SLO clone and tried a bunch of different 6L6 including SED...everything EXCEPT the wafer 5881. I thought I hated that wafer 5881 tube because I didn't like it in BF Fenders. Then years later I got a quad in a used 5150 purchase, swapped them in and couldn't believe I had dismissed them for all those years I had that amp. Way better than any of the other 6L6 I had tried.

They were all more similar than they were different. I'd be happy with any set of those tubes. I'd probably take EH because of reliability and cost. NOS is totally not worth it IMO.
