NAD - Diezel VH4

I played a Herbert at an amp fest many years ago and loved it! Haven’t had a chance since.

I really wanted a VH4 for the four channel layout. Plus, I’m not a metal player and everything I read led me to think of the Herbert as more of a metal amp. I’m sure it can be versatile.
You can’t beat the vh4 for versatility. Especially if you play wdw or stereo. That out/thru jack on the front works perfectly….

I was actually running mine in stereo with the jvm right when the jvm’s first came out….

I've misinformed you!!! Mea culpa.

Just took a look at the midi mongoose manual and it will accept a 7 pin midi cable and phantom power.

Sooo. I found a MIDI MOOSE for sale locally (not mongoose). If I'm reading everything correctly, the VH4 uses pin 1 & 6 to the negative power and pins 3 & 7 to the positive power, leaving pins 4 & 5 for data.

The MIDI MOOSE takes power over pins 1 and 3 of a standard 5-ping cable (according to the manual pasted below.)

Does this mean that with a5-pin cable, I can use the MIDI MOOSE with the VH4 and the phantom power works? No power adapter needed?

I think the answer is yes. Maybe I'll pick it up.

Always a good time when you can get the one amp you always chased and wondered about and it sounds and feels like you though it would!:2thumbsup:

Congrats on the NAD Mr Thump!\:D/

I had them at different times. But from memory, the Einstein seemed slightly less compressed and had slightly less of a stop-on-a-dime attack. I remember a few of your videos from like 17 years ago where you compared an Einstein and SLO or Landry. You got great sounds from all of them. But for the vibe you were going for, I think the SLO sounded the best. I think you had an Ultra Lead too?
I think he has that SLO ground covered with the Mezzabarba Trinity he has. We played that at the St Louis ampfest and that amp encapsulated everything an SLO has to offer [at least to my ears] but with tons of user features the SLO doesn't have, like footswitchable boosts and dual master volumes. It was really a cool amp.

I should have bought one of these years back. Wish I did!

Much congrats on a getting a great amp!

If I am reading that correctly you should be good with a 5 pin cable to power the moose from the vh4, as long as you have a midi cable that has all 5 pins connected. Some companies are cheapskates and will wire their midi cable with only three wires, since that is what the data transmission is actually using. Monster cables is one of those that cheap out on internal wires.

I just picked it up at a local music-go-round for $80. I’ll try it out a little later later after work and report back. Thanks again!

Awesome. That is a good price on a good unit. Hopefully it will do what you need out of the box. If not, I am sure we can figure out how to get it to behave how you need.

Plugged it into the VH4 and everything works perfectly! It powers up through phantom power, footswitches 1-4 select the channels, and footswitch 5 turns on channel 1 and MUTE.

Perfect! I don't need to program anything. YAY! Thanks alot for your help! I really appreciate it!

It's also in brand new condition!

That thing is a beast. Curious to know how you would compare it to your other amps?

Hey Michael! Well... None of my amps sound as huge as this VH4, that's for sure! I'm only going by memory and it was a long time ago, but the punch and huge sound reminds me of the original VHT Deliverance. Not the voicing, but just the punch.

It's very different than the Mark VII and Mezza Trinity. The Mezza has a loose bottom end that bugs me sometimes.

Yeah man, I get it, I remember having the same thing with my old Engl Savage, that thing just punched. I played the Einstein once, and that was an awesome, awesome amp. I agree with you the Diezel is very different from the Mark series, like apples and oranges.

Glad to hear you dig it man! Very cool. How do you feel it responds with single coils vs humbuckers?

Mark series amps are different from the majority of amps. Most other high gain amps have that marshall lineage. Between the pre gain eq, and the active graphic eq after, I am not sure apples and oranges cover the amount of disparity between Marks and pretty much any other high gainer. It may be more like apples and aardvarks.:ROFLMAO: I sure love Marks and all the other high gain amps though.
