Who knows what else was in that signal chain. What cabs, speakers, etc etc.
I dialed in something so clear and punchy yesterday. Im dying to get off of work to go and rip some more today...

During that era, Hetfield was using Marshall 1960BV 4X12's w/V30's. He also used Aphex/B&B parametric EQs around that time. That was a long ass few years of touring. For a while he was also slaving them in to Mesa Strategy 400 Power Amps before switching to his Mesa Triaxis + Strategy 400 rig in the mid-90s, originally also using the Aphex/B&B, but later switching to his custom Mesa rackmount EQ.

For what it's worth, it sounds Enough like Metallica right now, I don't want to even try and mess with adding anything. It's just a massive crunch with a nice push of lows, it's a fantastic sound. I love the graphic EQ here.

I don't think I can have THIS high gain tone and have anything like a clean tone on the other channel. That might be the only downer, but I don't care, so what. It's a single channel beast then.

Mesa can add an additional volume pot in one of the jacks on the front of the amp so it will allow the clean channel to be clean without need for tweaking some knobs. Petrucci has it on his 2C+ amps too.

For some real fun, you need to get one of these: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=179069&p=2016346#p2016346

Costs way too much. sorry won't do it.

Agree with Reza. That price is insane.

I have one with that volume pot mod that I bought from NewWorldMan. LOVE it. Additionally, I had it modded to make the Slave jack a footswitch Jack (easily reversible, as it is one wire from a pot to the Jack) so I can use both channels on the fly. Awesome!

As you know, I also still have the IIC+ I bought from you, which will be up for sale whenever I stop being lazy and list it.

Love Love Love the IIC+....and I agree on the EQ in the loop. I have an MXR 10 band in the loop cutting just a bit of mids and it sounds MASSIVE.

Cost is all relative and we can argue the cost of lots of guitars, amps, pedals, etc, but it does what it does and can't be replicated. Plus it's made by the same hands and mind of arguably mesa's most knowledgable tech and designer (remember, Randall was away when Mike and Co. Came up with the + design). After hearing one several years ago, I begged and pleaded for one with no success. Once these few came available, I jumped. Once they're gone, you'll be lucky to get one again. That aside, it sounds and works great. Worth every penny to me.

I got mine a few weeks ago and completely rediscovered Metallica. I dialed in JPs settings from the manual and have not experimented at all yet. A BB preamp on the clean channel sounds awfully familiar too.

Video clip is cool.

Do I see the bass knob pulled in the pic?

That's sound absolutely perfect  I'd say it would need a tab bit more oomph, but I'm sure it has that in person! If the jp2c can get that tone I'll be buying one.

How is it different than the normal Mesa eq?

Without writing a novel, the Cliff's Notes version...high volt supply rail, no ICs, large signal headroom that allows extreme boosting, able to slam the power section harder without clipping the EQ circuit, and on and on.

To Dave's point, Mike just reiterated again today - once these are gone, don't expect more to be made. These are a niche item for serious players, collectors, enthusiasts, etc...that you won't have an opportunity to buy again.

mctallica1 - Glad the IIC+ is working out for you! It's a killer head, I just couldn't justify keeping 3-4 of them around...

Great vid...really good representation of what you get with a C++. That's enough for me to send mine out for the ++ very soon.

That may be the best sounding clip I've heard from you yet and is one the very few clips that actually does the IIC+ sound justice!! I have a IIC+ HRG and it's the best overall amp I've played for my tastes. I wanna now get my mark iii colieum blue stripe modded to C++ specs if that's still possible

It's got a nice bite without being shrill. Treble seems about right.

Rez that amp is on my envy list. I came so close to getting one but went with a VH4 instead. That Mesa is an amp I can listen to all day. You post many clips as you want dude!.

That sounds great Reza! Man, those amps just have something special going on.
