It appears to be some sort of robotic system for adjusting guitar sounds on the fly. A more elegant weapon from an admittedly completely uncivilized age (the early 90s.).

Soldano X99 preamp. It's an SLO pre with all the switches/channel switching MIDI controlled, and MIDI automated pots. So when you change presets, the knobs turn themselves like an automated console.
Oh .... OK .... I've heard of these .... I think Dave Friedman was talking about it during a Tone Talk podcast ....

I'd be wary of what the diodes in that power supply section could do to your tone myself.

Well got it fired up and it's mostly working, but I need the damn manual. I've got one patch that's doing something strange with MIDI CC messages, and I don't know how to program that part of it. Probably requires a stone tablet and a stylus or something.

Thing's dead quiet for being 34 years old or whatever though.

I found a guy selling the manual on ebay and his pictures had enough to figure out what I was missing.

Now that the pots are not randomly moving when I don't want them to, the overdrive channel is GLORIOUS. It seems like some of the control ranges are a little different than an OG SLO, but the magic is there and programable. It's the 4 (or more) channel SLO they never made

Nice score for sure! In the 90s when I was rocking two hot rod 50s, that preamp was a dream piece.
