Given all that's been going on with NAM A2 recently, I've put together a user-centric walkthrough vid which goes over:

✅ NAM A2 and what it means for the end user
✅ The new GATEWAY plugin and the SLIM knob
✅ My current NAM-A2 releases:
➡️ Fortin Evil Pumpkin "MultiLoad"
➡️ 1980 Marshall JMP 2204
✅ 2dor pack NAM-A2 updates on Tone3000 & Ko-Fi
✅ Anti-aliasing breakthrough & NAM oversampling plugin forks

I found a snorkeler last night that really got me! I'll be checking yours out tonight

Quick teaser of what's cooking at the moment.

This will be the first "MultiLoad" pack I do.

The cabinet / load the tube amp interacts with has a huge impact on how the amp feels & sounds; this is my foray down that rabbit hole.

In essence, every AMP and POW knob combination is reamped 3 times, with each of my 3 cabs:

- Mesa 4x12 OS Straight with Mesa V30 8 ohm speakers

- Mesa 2x12 Rectifier Horizontal (large, not compact) with Mesa V30 16 ohm speakers

- Marshall 4x12 1960BV with Marshall G12 Vintage speakers

It essentially makes it 3 packs in 1 and will include, like all of my recent packs, both DI and FULLRIG profiles as well as PRE (isolated preamp) and POW (isolated poweramp in both DI and FULLRIG versions) profiles.

Wtf?

ℹ️ “MultiLoad” - what’s this about?

The cabinet (or load) a tube amplifier interacts with has a considerable impact on the tone & feel. For this pack, I used 2 iconic cabinets and reamped all AMP and POW settings with each cab.

ℹ️ Summary

The pack features a Zuta GBG120 (EL34, 6L6 loaded) amp captured using 2 iconic cabinets loading down the amplifier.

Some behind the scenes on how I prep the cabs for captures.

I don't sit the head on top of the cab anymore since I've had some issues with vibrations and tubes about a year ago.

The amp head sits not too far away but on a different, unpowered 4x12 (the Marshall in this case) cab which is at arms reach. This does 2 things:
  • prevents loud vibrations from the "active" cab from causing damage to the tube amp head
  • keeps the tube amp head at arms-reach so I can quickly / easily reach the dials
I use 2 big, fluffy floor cushions on the floor (bottom of the cab) and a big blanket on top of them to prevent floor reflections from reaching the microphones.

The 2 chairs are mostly there to support a thick, heavy AF weighted duvet which I lay on top of the cab to pretty much avoid room reflections making it to the mics.

1784877407254.png

The speaker cable from the cabinet goes to the THROUGH jack on the St.Rock React:IR2.

This completely bypases the internal load of the unit and allows the tube amp and the cabinet to interact directly - it's what makes the DI (direct) profiles feel like the real deal.

Another thing that's paid dividends is keeping some distance between power cables and signal cables (XLR, Speaker cables etc). It's been very helpful in getting good quality reamps for these profiles.

The DI and MICs (SM57, SM58) go straight into my RME Fireface UCXII and are recorded at the same time.

The BLEND #1, BLEND #2, BLEND #3 mixes are mixed at recording / reamp time so it's the natural phase of the mics etc & not any post-editing.

In essence, the profiles I shoot / capture are _RAW_ and honest; no processing at all except for "Peak" normalization to -3 dBFS (preamp reamps / captures stay at unity gain for calibration to work properly though).
