taddaaaaa :D

my friend who lives in LA just arrived here (Salvador, Bahia, Brazil) and brought me a '73 JMP50, an '81 Les Paul Standard, a Jerry Cantrell Wah and a MXR CAE Booster / Overdrive :inlove:

he also brought a 2005 Les Paul Standard Faded, a Bogner Alchemist and an AMT B1 pedal, but those aren't mine

couldn't try the marshall yet, since it requires those vintage plugs for impedance and voltage selection, but I'm quite surprised with the Alchemist
it's much better than I expected after reading the reviews here (at least in low volumes)
sounds pretty good with the punch switch engaged, no boost and gain around 6-7
the marshall is in pretty good shape for a '73 and has a tube buffered loop and master volume
it actually has two knobs in the front, but I'm not sure if they're both master volumes (maybe a master + ppimv?)
don't know how the channels are wired yet
I'm taking it to my tech friend Zambelli

both Les Pauls are great, but the 2005 Faded is kicking my '81s ass! :aww:
I'll install a BK Riff Raff in the bridge of the '81

the B1 pedal is waaaay too gainy
I have to set the gain around 2 to get amp like saturation
it can sound close to the alchemist if I roll the highs off
gonna try the Cantrell Wah and the CAE Overdrive now

as in... here, I don't want these any more... or here, you can borrow these.

Nice friend. I need a friend like this. Whats his address so I can send him a christmas card, he can be my friend too.

The faded might be kicking the 81 in tone but the wine red rules! Swap the pickup and get that thing rocking through the Marshall.

Congrats man! Nice friend.

those cantrell wahs look so sexy!! I need one

Deeeeeelish looking Braddah...

Let us know what ya think of that CAE/MXR stomp when you have a sec.

V.

Wow man! That's a great fucking year (year I was born :D ) HNAD and HNPD!

Beyond the gain factor, what were thoughts on that AMT pedal? I was always intrigued by them, but reviews aren't too plentiful. Seem like they would make a good "oh shit" pedal to have on a board for high gain stuff in a backline situation... And is that Marshall modded (beyond what looks like MV's of some sort??

I had one. It was thin sounding, and the top end was a little too harsh.

No thread hijack intended..... But thats kind of a bummer about the AMT. I'v always been on the look out for some type of pedal that could get some nice, high gain sounds too use as a backup pedal. Right now I have a BSIAB2, and while I like it overall, could use some more chunk and meat to it. Also been eyeballing the barber dirty bomb....

still didn't try it with my own amp, but it makes the Alchemist roar
I like it
a lot less noisy than most pedals
funny thing is that it doesn't have any sound with gain on zero, just like an amp

yeah, it's a bit thin and can get harsh
bass heavy and loud, but thin
it has a huge output, so if I plug it in the front of the amp instead of the loop, I need to set the level around 1-2 only
in the loop it sounds too bassy
I like it better in front of the clean channel, but you really gotta be careful with the gain, bass and treble knobs
they're very sensitive and I wouldn't pass gain 3
I really needed to set the treble very low to get a smoother top

the stock Tim Shaw pickups sound very very weak and the Faded has a 498t/490R set installed
but the '81 sounds killer with the MXR wth both boost and overdrive engaged

it's the most balanced Dunlop Wah I've tried (had the GCB95, Hendrix and 535Q)
the sweep isn't extreme, so you can't make it sound dark and muddy or thin and shrieky
very smooth response

it has the master and apparently a tube buffered loop with level control
it has 2 extra preamp tubes
I have no idea what else was done and who did it
I wonder if it was some well know guy
it has that send/return sticker that I've seen in few famous name modded marshalls

my tech/bandmate Tiago Zambelli will take a look at it
if it's still plexi spec, I'll probably get it modded to something hotter
he modded the other JMP '77 I had and that thing was killer
ended up selling it to a friend to fund the '73 JMP, which was in much better shape

my friend who owns the '77 amp now recorded a couple videos (lot of cam clipping, though):

Since you might have some work done to the Marshall, I take it your friend dropped off some this stuff for a permanent home? Pro-bono may I ask? Actually, whether permanent or temp, that's awesome!

lol I bought it myself on long beach's craigslist and the seller delivered it at his home
I wish that was a gift
I think I paid $1000 (but it's worth $2200-$4000 here)
a friend of mine sold a '78 master volume for $3300 a couple weeks ago
I sold the modded '77 for quite cheap
around $1700 + $120 for the mods
it already had an extra preamp socket and spare holes, so my friend installed a flawless Shiva-like clean channel (a bit more twangy and not as fat), footswitch jack in the back, two modes for the drive channel (3 stages crunch and 4 stages lead)
crunch mode was pretty good
like a higher gain JCM 2204

but I'm still not sure what to do with the '73
gotta figure out what mods does it have first
don't know how the two inputs are wired
maybe it's some kind of Jose mod

Just keep it and send it to Fortin or Friedman man. It seems like everyone I read on here sells their hot-rodded Marshall at some point for something else, and comes full circle to obtain another like it a year later, lol... And especially if you got it at that price, you could sell it at anytime and make money back!

sending it to canada or USA and back would cost me at least $500 on shipping, plus the mods cost and the customs would try to fuck me with a 60% import tax here :aww:
and a modded amp is actually less valuable here

also, my friend charges me only $80 + parts to do whatever mod I want
he just finished an amazing amp for me (I'll post a thread about it when he finishes the headshell and some fine tune adjustments) :D
here's a small clip I recorded with the prototype version:
http://netmusicians.org/?section=id&value=6805

Oops, didn't know you weren't continental. Either way, I'd say keep it if you can afford to, closet it, and rethink what ya wanna do with it later on. With the quality and construction of Marshall's current stuff :aww: , demand for their older stuff will be constantly rising, and it may be a nice one to have in the pile

Oh, and nice clip. Mod, clone, or your friend's custom build?

Nice stuff! I love my '05 faded, smacks the other LP's I've owned tone and playability wise. I had a '06 Standard plus, an old studio, '88 LP Custom and have played several. I think the faded standards are amazing values and sound great, but they are starting to creep up in price.
