ok, i'll bite.

i have a MINT krankenstein plus. plastic still on the knobs. just sitting there, looking sad. banished to the bathroom when i got the pittbulls and herbert. when i tell you it still needs to be broken in, i am not lying. probably 2 hours total playing time on it.

smells funny from too many mexican food evacuations. (kidding, it was greek food, i love gyros.)

$800. AND i can bring it to tampa in 3 weeks for the dean guitars DOA party in tampa (weekend of the 19th of feb). no shipping. no charge for the delivery.

(my advice? don't do it unless you really want, and have tried a krank. i have friends that love them, but i didn't. the soldano or the baron would be my choice....only if i could not get, or did not have a VHT.)

The 5150 III has 6L6 power tubes, not EL34.

If you are scratching it off your list for being an EL34 amp that would not be the case.

Play em all. Nice problem to have. So many amps that sound good.

A serious dose of EQ and a few dirt pedals seems to provide lots of variety.

I recently sold a Rivera Knuck Tre. It had a dark evil voicing. Got a 5150 III. For me it is a more flexible amp. It is all so subjective though on amp tone.

Good luck on the tone quest...

Before I even got to the part that said what you have been considering the Deliverance came to mind.

Get it man, VHT amps are bad ass hands down..The D120 is so freaking brutal..

It doesnt have much variety at all. 1 channel, no loop. But you wont need it, you have lots of amps to choose from. If variety is a must on this next amp then get the Sig-X.

If you want high gain and different flavor it will be a hard amp to beat imo...The VHT/Fryette amps have some of the most unique voicing.

If you need in depth on the functions go to the Fryette user forums. They welcome new members graciously, have sound clips, diagrams and support fairly available who know everything there is to know about there amps.

The Sig:X would be awesome. Price is great if you're buying used and you have three stellar channels. Plus with the footswitchable boost, you can get a ton of different tones.
I would go with this as well! I had a krank, and a few dual recs back in the day

well funds delayed again. i picked up a Sovtek Mig 50 for $380 (odd that the price was the same) from a tech that swapped all pots over to CTS (some came from the factory plastic), and he also biased it and gave me a full set of tubes.

i will get another high gainer though.

Baron amps... as soon as I got mine, I literally sold every other amp I owned, and I started over. It's hard to compete with the K2 for high gain; it gets used at my studio ALL the time.

of the amps you mentioned the avenger for sure...but thats me.. no rectos

this

researcch the cameron mods

and for SURE, do the bias mod.

i didnt think the bias mod would make such a big difference....boy was i fucking wrong.

i did all the cameron mods and put them on switches....and a few other extra tasties in there too.....

so, i can hear my amp stock or, with whatever mods i want in it at the time....a bit of work, and problem solving, but, i came up with something that worked for me.

anwyays, get a 5150v1. do the bias mod
and turn it up!

Based on what you have, I'd probably go for the Sig X...great amps. A simple amp IMO that just happens to have alot of switches...once you get it, very easy to figure out. Looks more complicated than it is. During my last amp buying binge it was one of the last 2 I bought after going through tons of stuff several years back...the other was the JVM.

I went with the JVM in the end...would have kept both but was touring a ton then. I needed to have a backup JVM...so I sold the Sig X and bought another JVM. I had one of the first production runs of the Sig X.

I love Steve's amps...had a Ultra Lead for quite awhile...and I think I actually like the Sig X more. Very precise amps, very articulate high gain. Not as forgiving as some amps but very clear great sounding high gain tones. I would choose that over the Deliverance...more options and effects loop. Again, not a complicated amp at all once you sit down with it.

i know this thread has dragged out over months, but just a quick update.

i purchased a VHT Sig:X a month ago and a Mesa Mark IV tonight.

here are a few pics of the amps i am running. the clear paneled head is a Splawn Pro Mod although it doesn't have a logo. i need to get one from scott.

Didn't you get the memo?

No more high gain on RT. It's all about playing clean like.............uh, wait...hum. Well, nobody ever.

Carry on!
