The other advantage of the airzone is that it still has a raw authentic sound, def not hyped or over gained out. 300 k vol pot, no tone and a Off the shelf JB is also a fantastic pairing for any guitar really. I remember thinking my charvel was too dark sounding, the 300 k pot takes off a lot of that high end.

First off, that is a cool guitar, nice score. Try a Motor City Afwayu. It's on the dark side with a huge low end, and it kills. I've got a few, and whenever I score a guitar on the bright side, in goes the Afwayu.

This is what I came here to say. +1
Yup.....I second this. That is what came to mind when I read the thread title.

Roll the tone knob down and play with your fingers. That will darken the guitar's tone.

I would second the Afwayu's. They are great, unless you're downtuning. Another great pickup for bright guitars is the Rio Grande BBQ bucker. BBQ is just a pissed off sounding pickup imo.

I was going to suggest looking at the amp. Mesa's are very nice dark sound, at least my Dual Recto i can get it. Throaty is how i like to describe it.

Another vote for DiMarzio Breed.
yeah i would agree overall this is the best to darken and still get a awesome tone.
the super 3 is all mids and too distorted.
