I have a regular old 5150 III and I just love it. I think they are way overpriced since they are stamped boards and made in Mexico... but I got mine used for $900. It has such an amazing tone, though.

Im just surprised they went for more compression and saturation, maybe thats just marketing b.s. I was hoping they would have said something like " more open with better clarity "

totally depends the cab. Mine is open and clear. Three options, if you want more open: go through the tubes, use it in 8 ohms, and buy a Mercury Copper power cable.

The problem is that EVH used 6CA7's in his Super Lead..
6ca7 & EL-34 are both Pentodes.

6ca7 is american designation for EL-34 just like 12AX7 is USA vs ECC-83 [euro]..

However the current JJ & EH 6CA7 are a far cry from the old USA tubes.

Not the same sounding tube. EVH used Sylvania 6CA7's. They have a beefy lowend, just like a KT77 has a brite sizzly topend. All can be used but produce different results.

Fuck a Super Lead. I'll kill it with a Deliverance.

Yes to my ears they do sound different.

EL-34's midrange in old Marshalls just turns to butter the more you crank it.

Kinda like a chick creaming her panties ...

This is going to be interesting. I wish I could combine different parts of amps into an "EVH" type amp. I love the growl of a Friedman and articulation and classic sounding tone of a Splawn and some tones in the EVH.

Man, after Chester's last message I completely forgot what I was talking about. Cream-like tones? :)

Wait....what was I going to say?.....

I have no interested in the 5134. I love my Stealth and my modded 100w Plexi nails the Fair Warning-era Brown Sound. My Stealth is so big and heavy to carry around, I just don't want another amp like that. Between band practice and gigs, it's a PITA. But it sounds great and I got it for free thanks to FedEx's mistakes. So I'll keep it. I can't imagine why anyone would need more gain or compression than a Stealth has. If they do, they're probably not chasing the Brown Sound, which makes me wonder what the target market for this amp is - the guys who haven't bought EVH amps yet or the guys who have them and still aren't happy? No one who's had a real Plexi-style head can think the 5134 is gonna sound like that.

I'm seeing a fat low-end mostly, not enough sizzle.

I agree and from what i have heard from this 5154 it sounded very nasal(postioned wha tone) and that is something i do NOT go for in a amp tone.
For his old tone a BRAY 4550 or a FREIDMAN would be my go to amp out of the box.

The best part of this thread is that big fat juicy ass. EVH threads bore me now because he would have sounded great through whatever and still does.

I don't think it was EVH's idea to put this amp out. Well, it might have been, but only because of market demand and not because it's his new way to get the Brown Sound. Everyone loves the old Brown Sound more than his new tone. And even though the EVH amps are awesome and very versatile, they ain't the old Plexi-style thing. Seems like a no-brainer for EVH/Fender to throw a bone to all the EVH fanbois (I confess to being one of them) who would otherwise be going to Friedman, Bogner, Metropoulos, etc. But I just don't see who's going to buy this amp unless they used to have an EVH amp and want to get back into one. I would think everyone else who wants one already has one. At that price point you'd have to think long and hard about going with a mass produced PCB head for the same money as a boutique HW head would run.

I agree with this. I'm not a EVH fan boi by any means, but I am getting the itch for a Marshall. I've always been against Marshall because I have heard so many crappy amps since I was a youngster. For me, everyone one had a little Marshall garbled combo, or a line 6 spider :bleh: Now all the sudden Marshall makes sense to me because they are a good middle ground for avoiding "boutique" and still having the sense of class. I don't know if I want a "hotrodded plexi" sound, maybe I just want the regular old sound.

As for the evh, No MIDI control? If I was in a band and played live, EVH amps would make more sense
