So, I feel like I should apologize ahead of time for judging this guy when I've never put out an album myself but....
In a world where any random youtuber can make a guitar sound like a million bucks by whipping up a chain of tube amp > reactive load > IR's or just using one of the big modelers out there, this release really erodes the credibility of a guy who has access to the world's best stuff and spends significant time talking about tone chasing, then produces... that.
I mean, the tone is so inappropriate for the song and the playing has so many obvious flubs that I wouldn't be surprised if they publicly announced that they accidentally muted the "real" guitar track instead of the rough scratchpad demo track before publishing the final mix. Either that or he got somebody to mix his electric guitar album who absolutely hates electric guitar. "Why yes, the lead guitar track in a guitar solo album is supposed to be 6 db quieter than everything else and have everything above 3 kHz and under 800 Hz chopped off, why do you ask?"
