New Meshuggah anyone?

i come from a different place as a Meshuggah listener. i was an 80's shredder. i can see the eyes roll already. it was a different time of course. i really like the new stuff. that song in particular works for me.

when i first heard stuff like Chaosphere i thought "these guys are insanely talented". but i couldn't listen to much of their music without thinking it was just too much brutality. i like the brootz like many other guitar players, but sometimes it's just cool to flow with a groove.

Pantera was a good example of power groove. i think this new Meshuggah is the next logical step in power groove.

somewhat predictable? yes, but sometimes that's a good thing. when you are playing live, isn't it cool when the whole crowd is just moving to the heavy groove you are laying down? i hate for that to end. with this kind of power groove...it doesn't have to end.

i think Meshuggah will attract a bigger audience with this music.

thats subjective and pointless to even talk about

im only saying that the change in writing was necessary to progress into the territory they wanted

Did you completely miss the reference?

You said that what they have been doing has gained them more popularity. My metaphor was that being popular has nothing to do with being better.

I sat next to Frederik a month or so ago for about half an hour while he played by himself with an 8 string fanned fret multiscale guitar. He dialed in his tone and played some riffs. I guarantee with the tone he has you can play riffs. It's just not what they want to do but it has nothing to do with tone. I saw it firsthand.

In the end, who really cares. You dig what they do now. I don't. Good thing for me I have the old records because no matter how much I would love them to, they aren't gonna return to the old style.

love dei and chaosphere, but their direction after that has been a monotonous, plodding single note big interval yawn fest. I have a hard time distinguishing the tracks from one another. you could not say that about dei and chaosphere. ditch the eight strings or whatever too, I don't like the sound. I feel very sad saying this about one of my former favorite artists. incredibly disappointing that they've continued down this road.
