i come from a different place as a Meshuggah listener. i was an 80's shredder. i can see the eyes roll already. it was a different time of course. i really like the new stuff. that song in particular works for me.
when i first heard stuff like Chaosphere i thought "these guys are insanely talented". but i couldn't listen to much of their music without thinking it was just too much brutality. i like the brootz like many other guitar players, but sometimes it's just cool to flow with a groove.
Pantera was a good example of power groove. i think this new Meshuggah is the next logical step in power groove.
somewhat predictable? yes, but sometimes that's a good thing. when you are playing live, isn't it cool when the whole crowd is just moving to the heavy groove you are laying down? i hate for that to end. with this kind of power groove...it doesn't have to end.
i think Meshuggah will attract a bigger audience with this music.
