I'm diggin' it, it's the first new stuff in quite a while that I've been amped to learn to play. :) On the surface James' rhythm here is sounding all smooth & cruising, till you figure it out & play it, and his speed & tightness is still on point! He just makes it sound easy!

+1 on all points. I can't stop playing Moth Into Flame...

The solos are the only weak part of the album. Kirk has one or three moments here and there, but that's about it.

The only thing I personally could call out on the album is that somebody needs to take Kirk's wah pedal away. Maybe he could have gone & rekindled some old inner demons.

Also on a semi-related thrash note, the new Overkill is decent. I never cared much for them because the singer drove me fucking batshit but the new album is pretty good.

The wah pedal is his thing, I get that and I won't hate on him for it however the solos on this album are WEAK, very very weak. It sounds like everyone else put a shitload of time into the writing and making of this album except Kirk. The songs are well crafted, the rhythm playing is vintage precision Hetfield, Lars' drumming is very clean and he can still fly for a guy his age, the bass playing is terrific but then you have these leads that sound like Kirk wandered into the studio and said "ok what key is this song in? E? Ok hit record" and then just laid down some recycled nonsense." That the difference between Kirk and all the other old thrash guitarists, you can tell they still practice and work hard on their craft. Kirk has lost a few steps which is hard for me to say because he is an idol of mine. Listen to just how perfect the solos on the black album were, you can tell he put days, weeks or even months into those solos. Same with Justice and everything prior to that but after the black album it was like he just said, meh, fuck it.
