After getting fired from Sabbath, Ozzy (more like Sharon) like being the Boss with only subservient employees. Can't imagine Sykes would have dug that.

John did sort of audition for Ozzy. He was contacted and scheduled an audition. He was told there would be an amp and a band ready for the audition. So he took his guitar on the train and when he showed up, there was no band and no amp. They heard another band rehearsing nearby and John asked the bassist and drummer if he could borrow them for a few minutes.

John located some barely functioning amp in the room and asked the bass and drums to play something and he jammed over it, John said Ozzy was completely inebriated and John doubted Ozzy would even remember him being there.

John left and soon after, got asked to join Thin Lizzy and he jumped at that offer.

Later, Ozzy slammed John in an interview for showing up at the audition without an amp. John said "I guess he did remember."

Yes, I heard that stuff, but I wasn't around much during those days and I never met Mike. Sheehan wasn't on any of it. It was just John's songs with Mike playing drums.

Yes he was. They talked, and rumored audition. Also rumored Ozzy didn't want to pay what Sykes wanted so they went with Jake. Also this was all around the time he joined Lizzy and Sykes idolized Phil.

I doubt that Sykes would of put up with any bullshit from Sharron or Ozzy and I'm sure that was part of the reason they didn't hire him along with him wanting a reasonable paycheck!

I'd say John was well compensated for his time, then of course royalties from the '87 album along with his solo albums and advances depending on what he was on the hook for, I'd say he lived a comfortable life.

Oh I have no doubt they would have screwed Randy even worse had he lived. It's why he wanted out. It's just in Ozzy and Sharon's nature. And I include Ozzy in that because he wasn't oblivious to what was going on, he was just as complicit as Sharon.
