Met the new singer at Rocklahoma when he decided to grab a bite in the grunt tent. Extremely nice guy! Said this was his first lead singing gig and, that he has always been a drummer that did a few vocals up till this job. Sounded great live!!

Odd, he was the singer for Crimson Glory before QR picked him up. I've known Todd for years, and he definitely is a great guy. He used to jump up and sing Maiden with my band from time to time. And yes, he's really a kick ass drummer!

It may be his first gig of this caliber, but I'm pretty sure he's done one or two tours in Europe with Crimson Glory.

It sounds dated. I really like classic QR so that's not a bad thing I guess, but I don't think this is the kind of stuff that wins new fans or turns people on to the back catalog of really great music. It is certainly not anything that makes me want to buy the new record. With this whole operation mindcrime vs. QR and all the drama of the recent years, I'd be just as happy never hearing anything new from them again and listening to Mindcrime and Empire over and over...

Pre-ordered the tracks.....so got a couple free downloads, don't really like they vocal mix at all...sounds super dated.

I actually prefer the recordings of the live gigs I've heard so far...but then that's mostly singing Q'ryche classics. :-)

They played the same day my band did at Rock USA. The whole band sounded amazing. They did some classics and I can say the singer killed it. They really sounded great.

The song is pretty good and like the last QR record, if I was in high school, I would have loved it. I don't know if my tastes have changed, or the songwriting isn't quite as good as the old QR but I just don't get excited for it. I saw them on their last tour and Todd did a great job. It must be incredibly difficult to sing that high all night. With that said, it made me go back and get out my old QR boots from Warning and Rage and man, Tate was a fucking beast in his prime.

I've been a Ryche fan since 91, seen them countless times. I'm so glad Tate split, I loved Tate in the late 80's early 90's. He really had it. But he lost it. Todd is a great singer, I'm totally down with hearing new and all the classic QR sung like the albums. That new song is probably the best I've heard since Spool on Q2K. Although they can ditch the Mindcrime lyric re-hash.

WTF! Sounds really good, but I swear that was Geoff Tate singing if I closed my eyes lol!!
It's kind of like when Journey got that guy from Philippines as he was a dead ringer for their old material.

If they wanted to sound more "new" maybe they could have got a singer who sounds different?? What do I know...

Nah, us fans were pissed off long enough over the vocals in this band, we wanted it back!

I'm anxious for the new record. I dug the last one quite a bit but still felt it was rushed. Zeuss produced this new one and he's known more for working with heavier acts, so I hope they really let it rip on this record. Todd's been throwing some guttural screams in occasionally live and I'm loving the shit out of it.

Really sick of their set list for the past 2 years though. They need to start changing shit up on the live front, big time. While I understand completely ignoring the last 3-5 Ryche records, I'd love to hear something off Promised Land eventually. Hearing the same Warning and Rage tunes over and over....enough already.

Disagree....

I was born in 1980...Was never into Queensryche...maybe SLIGHTLY before my time. Yeah I heard the popular songs but probably couldn't name one tune. I wasnt much into cheese metal but I did like Skid Row and Poison....

Anyway, I thought this song kicked lots of ass and was a breathe of fresh air up against the crap you hear now days.

I am unsure of how this compares to the Original band and idk what members are left but I thought this was pretty cool. Has that old school sound but also had some heavy parts and modern production.

I would buy this CD and become a new fan.

I do agree with the outro comment though. What a shitty way to end a song

Definitely different but idk, may that would grow on me.

Perhaps I miss understood him but, I thought he said he was the drummer for Crimson Glory? Not accurate?

Ah I see. He was the front man for CG. Funny thing is, the previous singer for CG lives here as well (Wade Black).

Todd is one of the most down to earth guys you'll ever meet. He is fully aware of the gravity of this gig, and does not come off like a big shot at all. I see him from time to time when he's in town, but he's understandably a much busier guy these days.

No, he was the singer. He was playing drums in another band in Florida and a friend of a friend told CG that he could sing, so they brought him down (they were looking for singers to do their tribute concert, as their original singer Midnight 'John' had recently died of liver failure). He exceeded expectations and was given the job. QR saw him doing the CG stuff and asked him to join. For the record, CG stuff is way more difficult to sing, so it was a natural fit.

what he said. You from around here?

I thought it was pretty cool. Definitely has the Tate thing going on. But I seem to recall another song by them with "Revolution Calling" in the chorus ;) .

Thanks for the clarification. I did recall the "I have mainly been a drummer till recently" part but, must obviously misunderstood his roll in GC. I told him that he sounded great and was really kind to the audience given that Tate told the Rocklahoma audience a couple years prior, " You guys suck!!" Todd said he made some comments to the crowd showing the bands gratitude. Todd said something like, "You guys rock!! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!"

Todd said to me, "I'm glad that came across that way. It's important that this audience knows how important they are to us'". Then Todd followed that with, "So you really thought my vocals we ok?? I am still not sure of myself really."

I was floored by his humility. Great guy!!

..also listening to Tate's new effort Operation Mindcrime: The Key...I like it...shrug.

This is the first Queensryche song since the Mindcrime days that has caught my ear. Great stuff. I also agree with the "he can do Tate better than Tate" comments.

He usually has a couple good tunes, but the rest of the material is either "meh" or horrid. I like the two I have heard from his latest album though.

I like the other group better. Their first post Tate album was pretty good but the mix/production sounded very dated to me. Still, I thought it was the best since Q2K.

I'm not really in either camp, I'll happily listen to both if I like the music.......or neither if it all sucks.
