K now I'm pissed cause I was stoked for some new Vai action.

I am a forgiving person though and will not only turn the cheek but will offer this incredible video of what a guitar really should be. The most understated, humble, and educated lecture I have ever listened to and thank god every day for his from the heart sharing.

I watch this video from time to time and walk away wondering what happened to my childhood hero. Sounds horrible and cocky. These guys can't tell him anything he doesn't already know. "What do you want to say Ed?" "Hi (with a cocky grin)"

I know I am overreacting here but it bothers me what he has become in the past 12 to 15 years.

I'd say that Ed has earned the right to be as cocky as he feels like...

He could have grown up to be a nice, friendly, genuine, non-cocky man...a nice role model. it's a choice. Don't think the booze helped.

i see his point though I will add that EVH being cocky when he ruled the world and was on top of his game is alot more understandable than a present day EVH who is a parody of his former self. Still, EVH, rewrote the books like Hendrix did a decade before him and set the guitar playing world on its ear. If he never plays another note again, hes firmly secured his place of honor in Rock guitar History....

Didn't mean to start a shitstorm. He's the reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. I guess the way I viewed him as a kid has changed. Quite frankly, he may have been like this in their 80s heyday too. Media coverage and accessibility is quite a bit different than what it used to be. Do I like how he sounds in this vid? Not really. Has he earned the right? Sure.

Either way, I get none of his endorsement dollars so perhaps it is jealousy on my part (but I doubt it).
