Ya, I basically agree too. I just think Reb and Viv Campbell are unique cases because they are both well known capable lead guitarists, so in some sense it'd be tough I'd think, taking essentially the 2nd guitar slot. I've had to do it on tours, and I guess it depends on the gig, wether or not I'd do it again. A personal example- in Cornell's band, Chris never dictated who would do what, he left it entirely up to Yogi and me. I'd just come off a 2nd guitar gig when I got the gig, and I just talked to yogi about it and said "look, I'm not into being #2 in this situation, but I will gladly go 50/50 with you" and he at first might have been reluctant, as he kind of considers himself a lead guitarist first and foremost. But we quickly grew to be a really good team, and it became obvious what he should play and what I should play. It worked out great, as we are very different and the contrasting styles made things more interesting in the end.
I just think, if both guys are capable, why not let everyone shine? It only makes your band more interesting. It's not about ego, it's about having fun making music and being able to stretch musically
That said, I'd play in Def Leppard if I was Viv, im sure the dough is stellar

Reb may be the stepchild in Whitesnake, but my guess is he's still got the gig because he's a great singer, and he's easy to work with....and he'd be a fool to leave that gig based on being a pissbaby for not getting enough of the lead player spotlight....he's been doing this long enough to know that there aren't a lot of available hard rock gigs that make money...and with Whitesnake he's actually playing good gigs...not bowling alleys and hick bars for 60 people in Bumblefuck Egypt on a Tuesday night in the dead of winter.
He probably makes a very comfortable living between that and the Winger gigs....and really what more can he ask for?
Agree. Alot to be said for still getting a good paying gig, playing live in decent halls and touring with relatively nice accomodations. Many high caliber players would trade places with Reb in a heartbeat...just not many "guitar" gigs out there anymore. I'd say Reb...while maybe musically isn't challenged very much is still having a good time. Besides...much like Vivian Campbell...the people that really care about the gun slinger thing know exactly how good both players are. Not alot to prove anymore. Granted it would be nice to hear more of them as fans of there playing.

nice accomodations. 1,000 percent agreed. The willingness to tour in a Ford Econoline van at 20 years old .. quickly vanishes when you're in your 40's and have had prior success....

100% percent agreed.
