Wait.. You just bought that beautiful guitar and you're thinking of routing the fucker for a neck pick up.

Wait up.. why didn't you just get a guitar with a neck pickup?

Charvel has not built one of these USA Production series guitars with a H-S pickup layout. PLUS..... it's a CHARVEL. The original hot rod guitars are made to be hot rodded. These Pro Mods are a platform. With a guitar like these I look at it and go, all it needs is zebras, or cream rings, or chrome hardware, or a new pickguard. It always floors me when people say, "Gee, I love that Charvel but I don't care for the Duncans or DiMarzio's." It seems like so many people have become afraid to put their guitars "under the knife". Do it. Make these guitars exactly what you want. I have with my three. None of them are stock.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have been looking at the Dimarzios anyone tried this one.
The HS-3

The HS-3 is the exact opposite of what you're looking for. The output is ridiculously low.

Yeah, if your looking to fight the shit out of your amp this is the pup to use

STK4 is also too low for what you are looking for, have those in my ssh charvel and they are a good chops building tool

NOICE!

Yup, these are made to be modded due to the price and the killer necks

I am all about modding. Be it hot rods or guitars. All my promods are modded but the white one, it was the shit already!

HS-3 is not hum-canceling and Area '61 will not have the output you're looking for. Either go with the Air Norton S (Top Choice), Fast Track 1, or if you're looking for the "Vintage" look stick with the Virtual Solo or Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2.

Cheers,

The HS-3 is a stacked humbucker, so yes, it's hum canceling, unless you're referring to it not being reverse wound?

I freaking love the Duncan SSL-5 but will admit it is pretty noisy. For that cool of a tone, I deal with the noise. I'm interested in the Duncan mentioned above that is like the SSL-5 but quieter. You'd think a Duncan dealer would have known about it.

I love the Dimarzio Chopper. My 2nd choice would be either a Dimarzio VV Heavy Blues or Duncan Cool Rails.

It's not hum cancelling, but the Dimarzio SDS-1 is a killer neck pickup when matched with a hot bridge bucker...I got turned on to them from Jake E Lee who used them in his white "Charvelized" Strat.

I know these are great platforms for modding, and I love modding guitars, but that thing looks great with just the bridge humbucker. I'd leave it the way it is. If you need a neck pickup you have plenty of other guitars that have that covered.

Just my opinion. That thing is definitely sexy.

I'd second the Quarter Pounder. I have it in my WDM Snake, and it's the best single size pickup I've ever had.

Sold I'll take a Quarter Pounder with cheese. :D

I think I'll try one of these.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Curt, I'll call you Monday.

Owe yeah and I know it is not hum cancaling but I think it has more the sound I am looking for.

I hope I can deal with the noise.

If not just rip it out and start over.

If you buy it new through a local SD dealer, Seymour Duncan's installers offer a swap until you get it right policy at no charge. SD want's to make sure you get the pup you really want. I still say you want the Cool Rails, but that's just me. :D

How bout a P90 type pickup ?? They sound killer in the neck pos. You can get them humbucker sized, so if you don't like it, you can try something else.
