Fucking GC just had to turn a good time into a shit show. So I took the guitar back because I it had a slight string alignment issue. No biggie, I ordered a replacement, in store, and they said it would come from the nearest warehouse. Well, after several days of no updates from UPS (guitar shipped 5 days ago), it suddenly appears. In a non descript, worn box, with one end open exposing bubble wrap and boot prints all over one side. Zero protection on the case as it was flush against the sides of the box. Latches aren’t closed all the way on the case. Guitar is inside and seems Ok. No case candy like the first one, just an Allen wrench. Notice the strings are quite old. Still has the plastic on the Filtertrons. Pull it out to inspect in the light. Lot’s of smudge marks around the knobs and scratches on the Bigsby.
So this one will go back tomorrow and I’m calling it a wrap on this guitar. I tried some vibrato on the high E and it didn’t fall off the edge quite as bad as the first one but the strings are still fairly misaligned with the pole pieces on the bridge pickup, which is not a good sign for me. Thought I had found a cool, reasonably priced Gretsch but I’m moving on.
When they looked over the first one and had Fender agree to send a replacement I should have done that. But they said it could take a couple of weeks. Why not get one in less than a week from GC’s warehouse….well I chose poorly.
