I have had many great and helpful conversations on this forum with a lot of you about gear and I have bought and sold plenty of gear as well....but what is it with certain members here who offer ridiculous trades or prices for your items for sale. For example I had a $3000 Knaggs up for sale here and someone wanted to trade me for a non USA made Charvel......currently I have several high quality Van Den Hul instrument cables listed for sale and a member offered me $50 for several of them that are valued over $200.

Can we start weeding out the non experienced musicians please....if not I will just depart this forum as much as I would hate to do that. I hate to rant but damn man....what a waste of time responding to those who do this!

Someone once tried to sell me their cabinet for 15% less than brand new. It was not a vintage cabinet, these are still made and in production. The tolex was just starting to peel off and had begun to fade, and it looked like it had been stored in a pile of dirty laundry. The jack plate was scuffed or had old adhesive, and one of the speakers had been reconed because he had blown it out at a gig. What would you expect the discount for this to be? He ended up selling it for 15% less than brand new. I wouldn't have come in anywhere near that price.

On another piece of gear, I paid 25% of the asking price. No one wanted it at his original price, so they just moved along, but anyone could have gotten the deal I did, I just happened to be the one who asked. The guy didn't have much in it but didn't want to lose any upside. He actually thanked me for taking it off his hands.

I'm sure others have stories like these, too. Sometimes buyers and sellers match up, sometimes they don't. It's not personal.

Amen....

you would leave a forum because a couple of low ball offers which you could just ignore??

Quit buying so much stuff and you wont have to sale it.

This is the EXACT type of person that would shoot a 20% offer of your original firm asking price.

In your listings, state low ball offers or ridiculous trades will be ignored. This puts the aggravation on them. No one likes to be ignored, especially after they know you read it.

I still like my suggestion. You don' get my irony, do you.

I'd have to agree with someone making a stupid offer as mentioned about the Knaggs is quite annoying and to me seems like it is inviting intent into a listing. It's easy to mis interperate someone's intentions. A Mexican charvel for a usa made Knaggs. No disrespect to charvels and the many happy users. I've been one more than once. If someone is on this forum one would hope they have basic research knowledge and can sort of balance resale of any item before making any offers. And if you dont know how to google how the hell did you end up filling out the profile registration for this forum? I guess my gut tells me it's someone being a Fcktard intentionally and wanting either attention or to annoy someone and start a pissing contest or they really have gear envy and all they can do is annoy. Or boutique guitars annoy them so they make an effort to be a piss ant. Some people would use the opportunity to be a complete smart ass in return and jump in on the mud slinging. Offering a bs price or trade item is bs and everyone doing it knows it. It would be nice if their were a way to having to open emails for heinous offers.. but probably not. Just hit the delete button and be thankful your in a position to trade or sell your boutique gear and know there are others who are interested on a serious level. Your better for not entertaining the piss ants

It's hard for me to even want to list things here, or Reverb/Ebay anymore. Lately I just contact a few guys here that I know well, and who might be interested in what I'm selling. I've sold things that way here for the last few yrs, not even bothering to put it in the classifieds.
I remember when I sold a C++ HRG head a couple yrs back, I kept getting these msgs from a dude who would say "how can you ask that much for an amp when it's not even new?" Lol ya ok. Fuck off.

its fascinating to me how something like a low ball offer, which i would chuckle at if it was really creative as im hitting the delete message button, is enough to send people into forum quitting tantrums and other people breaking down the psychology of low balling lol.

I feel ya, I have a bunch of pickups on eBay right now and I forgot to turn off “receive offers”. Messages all week long trying to buy new in box unopened Duncan pickups for $10 and shit. I’ve always just ignored lowballers but it can be annoying.

Hey in the real world people want the best deal they can get. I know I do, maybe you like paying top dollar. Whatever works for you. My point was including myself people buy more than they need. Then they take a look around and see. Im not using this shit I gonna sell it.

It's not a forum thing, it's an everywhere thing. The last 2 things that I've sold, it has been to Guitar Center. Yes, they offered more than ANY offer I got online. And they don't flake out. The state of online gear sales has been more about everyone trying to flip for profit looking for a bargain, than anyone looking to actually buy for themselves

Great point? I mean......yeah, really relevant to the conversation.

It's surprising that you guys have such a touch time selling things online. I will admit, things can sometimes sit for a while and you get ridiculous offers, but why even entertain them? I usually just reply with a sorry, price is firm and if they try to reply again telling me how my price is wrong, I just ignore from that point.

Believe it or not, I've made a lot of sales to people who initially low balled me and then came back a week later and paid my asking price because they were testing me. I just try to remain polite, unless the person is totally insane or completely braindead, and move on to see if they come back later.

Believe it or not,it's a buyers market. Too much cool stuff available. Yes,your boutique guitar or amp is worth more coin than the cheaper stuff. But don't get bent because someone wants to haggle. That is the cost of doing business these days when selling used gear.

And NEVER threaten to take your toys and go home on the internet. Total amateur move, just leave or get over it and move on.

Bingo!

I am doing mostly local and have been doing better than usual. I have been getting killer deals on purchases. The stuff I am selling is going slow, but the opportunities to buy are great so as long as I am coming out ahead in the deal I don't care. I have bought almost if not more than 20 guitars in the last year, and sold probably 8 of them came out ahead +50% on every one if not double or more.

I traded a $250 jackson into a krank rev+ into my K-TRE. that is pretty good for a three month period of time. I will be keeping the K-tre though.

To a point it's how bad you want it. I will take something in that I don't like just so I can profit. Then onto the next one.

Its just a right thing at the right price at the right time. That's all.

I have been offered ridiculous gear for nice high end gear> irritating.

I’ve got 4 amps 3 guitars up for sale.
All high end. I just brush off the pests. Dont look back.
If some fucking schmuk going to ‘ruin my day’?
Then I better get another hobby. YMMV
