Ok what’s the best recorded Recto tone

Kings X - Dogman album, specifically Black the Sky and Pillow
Dream Theater - Train of Thought album
Early 2000s Foo Fighters
Incubus - Make Yourself
Alter Bridge - Blackbird
Soundgarden - Down on the Upside

I realize after typing this that most of my favorites are Vintage/Orange mode hit with a boost of some kind.

Honorable mentions to the Nickleback, Godsmack, and Creed stuff. I think that is the rectifier tone in most people's head though.
A lot of Down on the Upside was apparently done with a Mesa Maverick, and iirc a Blue Angel also.

Granted they are Dual Rectifiers, but nothing at all like the Solo Heads, and Tremoverbs.

I believe you are right. Road King, Lonestar, and perhaps some IIC/"Nunya"/ triaxis stuff as well. The road rig and videos though were Road King for drive sounds and Lonestar for cleans.
Great tone I agree . Really thick and crisp . Might be my fave recto . I’ll keep listing to the others

I'm not a big cannibal corpse fan but dont they use rectos?
Yes I love them . But how much if the gain from the metal zone do they actually use ? Is it a blend of the ideal and a orange or red . I’ve always wondered . I love this tone

I always thought it was Recto too. Looks like Loomis is Engl on the left and Kranks on the right live, this show was 2008, in some cuts it looks like recto's on Loomis's side.

I think that was just live in the final days of the band. The recordings were Triple Rectos from what I have seen.

Saliva - Every Six Seconds
Full Devil Jacket - Self Titled
Incubus - Make Yourself; S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
Foo Fighters - The Colour and Shape
Faith No More - Album of the Year
Creed - Human Clay
The Verve - Urban Hymns; A Storm In Heaven (All Lead Guitar Parts)

@BeZo the youtube clip sounded great. It had some SOAD vibe in some parts of the song. And yes, the guitar sounded great.

The Dead Heart album was Sneap's rackmount Dual Recto. He got into a lot of detail about the setup on another forum:

Custom Built 7 String Guitar loaded with EMG 707 pickups. Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer. The settings on the TS-9 were: Drive: 9 O'Clock; Tone: 10 O'Clock; Level: 12 O'Clock
The amp used was a Mesa Boogie (2 Channel) Dual Rectifier that was straight from the box. The Mesa Recto was routed into a Marshall 1960B 4X12 Cab with the stock 75 Celestions they have. Settings on the Mesa Recto were:
Silicon Diode Setting; Bold Setting; Red (Modern) Channel; Treble: 11.30; Mids: 10 O'Clock; Bass: 11.30; Gain: 12:30; Presence: 12.30; Master: 10 O'Clock
There were 4 tracks of rhythm, with 2 tracks being panned 100% left and right, and the other set being panned 80% left and right. There was no compression, limiting, etc...only a slight touch of EQ used. Two Shure SM-57's were used for recording, one on the center of the cone about an inch away. This was the approximate's denoted by Andy Sneap previously.
